Course winner over a shorter trip his consistency his year is hard to knock over sprint trips. The upshot of that stability in his form means that the handicapper has him where he wants him for the most part; should run his race.

Twice successful here over 7f he has also won at this trip elsewhere. Failed to follow up his April win around here last time in a small field (market overestimating his chance) when finishing third; needs to show more to take a hand over this trip.

In good form already this year with his 5f win here (penultimate start) his third so far (given a chance by the handicapper on turf); caught the eye on his previous start. Ran with credit last time in a race spoilt by a false start at Goodwood (6f).

A winner over C&D off this mark he's run respectably this year without looking like a winner waiting to happen. This looks to be his grade (and trip) now so it will be no surprise to see him thereabouts; wears first-time cheekpieces.

Taken well to this idiosyncratic track going 2-2 over C&D with her latest form proving to be stronger than that of her initial success here. Pushed up a further 4lb this time (has won off this mark in the past) she's still of interest; shortlisted.

Needs very little introduction here being a nine-time course winner with five of the wins coming at this trip. Headgear (cheekpieces) and a return to this track prompting a move forward last time; worth respecting in the market, coming to the boil.

Excuses can be found (and made) for his three runs this year; definitely shaped better than the bare result over 7f at Goodwood last time. Confirmed his ability to act around here with a 7f maiden win last year; blinkers on first-time.

The only one in the field without any winning course form (42 here) but has already won twice this year at today's trip. Didn't look the easiest ride when gaining his latest win at Windsor (got a good ride); reportedly finished lame last time.

Forecasts

Diamond Lady (3/1), Mamillius (3/1), Dream Catching (9/2), Little Boy Blue (11/2), Shamshon (6/1), Lightning Charlie (8/1), Real Estate (12/1), Pour La Victoire (14/1), Clear Spring (14/1)

Verdict

Course form should always be noted around the idiosyncratic layout and there is plenty on display here with all bar one of the runners having won here. Pour La Victoire is aiming for his tenth course win and he looked on the way back last time and can’t be ignored. Shamson is another who has to be respected having won here over a slightly shorter trip with the first-time blinkered Dream Catching expected to run another sound race. DIAMOND LADY is 2-2 on her trips to the South Coast and she has a sound chance of making it 3-3 having already defeated three on today’s rivals in those wins.
  1. Diamond Lady
  2. Pour La Victoire
  3. Dream Catching
