33/1
A filly with stacks of racing experience (5-33) and a proven liking for the Westwood at Beverley (C&D record reads 4,2,1,2); sits on her last winning mark; would be suited if the ground conditions were to dry out very quickly.

Fragrant Belle18
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-6| J: D Allan| T: R M Beckett| OR:  72
11/2
Sir Percy filly who was an 8/1 debut winner at Lingfield (1m, standard) last September; hasn't kicked on as positively as one might've hoped since, but no doubt she'll relish this stiff 1m4f trip on handicap debut.

Vindolanda14
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: K Shoemark| T: C Hills| OR:  69
10/3
Reasonably progressive; in the shake up (third) on handicap debut at Lingfield (1m4f, standard) a fortnight ago; clearly holds a fair chance now switched back to turf, although that bare form of that race mightn't be overly strong.

Fayettav7
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: T E Whelan| T: D Loughnane| OR:  69
8/1
Nine-race maiden; wore a visor (retained) when finishing fourth, behind today's rival Gold Fleece at Thirsk (1m4f, soft) last week; it's difficult to imagine that she can reverse those placings tonight.

Gold Fleecep17
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: G Lee| T: H Palmer| OR:  68| BF
5/2
Nathaniel filly who has run extremely well on both handicap starts to date; well backed when going down narrowly at Thirsk (1m4f, soft) last week; cheekpieces applied, and with stronger handling (Graham Lee aboard) sets the clear standard.

Arctic Ocean22
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-1| J: J Quinn| T: Sir Michael Stoute| OR:  67
6/1
Camelot filly (130,000gns yearling); she hasn't been the most consistent of performers, albeit she's low mileage at staying trips and should play a hand in the finish on the basis of her recent Leicester (1m4f, good to firm) third to Dorah.

Lincoln Tale7
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: Cam Hardie| T: D O'Meara| OR:  65| CD
5/1
May C&D winner (good to soft); right back to her best when finishing third to Joie De Vivre at Thirsk (1m4f, soft) last week, a form-line which leaves her with 1L to find with the runner up Gold Fleece; place claims.

Lots Ovp1
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-9| J: A Mullen| T: J S Wainwright| OR:  45
125/1
20-race maiden with poor form; won't be troubling the judge in this contest; also declared to race in a claimer at Catterick on Monday (3.15pm); look elsewhere with confidence.

Forecasts

Gold Fleece (5/2), Vindolanda (10/3), Lincoln Tale (5/1), Fragrant Belle (11/2), Arctic Ocean (6/1), Fayetta (8/1), Flower Power (33/1), Lots Ov (125/1)

Verdict

The majority of clues come from the action at Thirsk last week when three of those in today's line up finished second, third and fourth respectively to the shock 33/1 winner Joie De Vivre. GOLD FLEECE (second) finished 1L and 2L in front of Lincoln Tale and Fayetta, and should comfortably confirm those placings with stronger handling from the saddle tonight. Hugo Palmer's progressive 3yo filly also has the assistance of newly-applied cheekpieces in order to help sharpen her focus just that fraction more, so makes a good deal of appeal in this race. Of the remainder, the Camelot filly Arctic Ocean should prove strongest for forecast purposes.
  1. Gold Fleece
  2. Arctic Ocean
  3. Lincoln Tale
