Promising colt, ran sound race at Ascot (1m, soft; 4-1) on handicap debut last month in this grade when 4¼L third of six. Should be suited by forecast better ground and looks a contender.

Must be forgiven a flat run at Wolverhampton on the AW last time, but prior efforts in handicaps at Epsom and Newmarket would suggest would suggest he's got claims on place money and perhaps more with marginal improvement.

Dansili colt out of Group 1-winning mare, ended two-year-old campaign with Ffos Las novice win on good ground over similar trip. Handicap debut, type to progress this summer and market prominence would have to be noted on return.

Dark Angel half-brother to multiple winners, showed some fair form in maiden/novice events at around 1m last season. Seasonal bow, up in distance and market should be used to guide.

Winner of 1m4f AW novice at Wolverhampton in April, yet to transfer that form to turf in two outings since but does have in-form Oisin Murphy returning in the plate here and should be doing better before too long.

Cost connections $400,000 as a yearling, finished third in all three AW novice starts last year. Soon beaten when things got serious in Newmarket reappearance last month and rather has it to prove at the moment.

Seven-race maiden with a number of near misses in handicaps at up to 1m. Goes up in distance here and wouldn't have to improve dramatically to get in the mix.

Scored a quick-fire hat-trick in nurseries last year at up to 1m (all on turf) before form tailed off. Two runs this term haven't screamed of a return to winning ways and others make more appeal now.

Forecasts

Just The Man (11/4), Blood Eagle (9/2), Asian Angel (5/1), Balladeer (5/1), Canal Rocks (6/1), Zoffee (8/1), Thorn (17/2), Amjaady (16/1), Greeley (16/1)

Verdict

Wide open fare. Thorn showed plenty promise scoring at Ffos Las on final juvenile run and commands a good look on reappearance while Balladeer easily goes in the mix on his turf form prior to a lacklustre showing at Wolverhampton recently on the AW. Just The Man is also shortlisted but CANAL ROCKS has already shaped with purpose in handicaps and won't require a big leap forward now upped in distance in order get the account opened.
  1. Canal Rocks
  2. Thorn
  3. Balladeer
