Won three of his seven 2-y-o starts, although found out in Pattern company. Improved again when head second of 5 to Rathbone on handicap debut at Leicester (6f) on recent return, and claims for all he has stamina to prove at this trip.
Won twice over 6f as a juvenile, but was below the pick of his form when 7¼L sixth of 12 to Khaadem in a 6f Listed race at Newbury on his return. Needs to step forward to defy a harsh opening mark.
Well held on his handicap bow/reappearance over 6f here in April, but much more like it when second of 14 to Beat Le Bon over 7f at Goodwood last time, having been gelded. Claims if he can repeat that effort at this track.
Made all the running on debut at Newbury in August, but found out in stronger company later in the year. Has a more realistic chance now handicapping having been gelded, but others more convincing.
Won his first two starts last year, and better from when placed in valuable sales event at the Curragh. Bit below expectations when sixth of 14 to Beat Le Bon in 7f handicap at Goodwood last time, but should strip fitter, and one to consider.
Best effort last season when winning a nursery at Ripon (1m) in September, and ran well when third at Kempton on return. Poor effort over 1¼m at Newbury last time, though, and drops sharply in trip now.
Redcar winner in October, on his second start. Has improved since then, taking a marked step forward on handicap debut at Ascot (7f, soft), and run best excused at Haydock last time, when badly hampered early. Shortlist material.
Won three of his seven starts as a juvenile, most notably the valuable sales race at Doncaster in September. Well beaten on his return at York last month, however, and needs to prove he's trained on.
Caught a tartar in the shape of Jubiloso over 7f at Newbury on penultimate start, and ran out an easy winner at Pontefract (6f) last time. Remains with potential, and handicapper has not been harsh, so needs consideration.
Had dropped in the weights after a few lesser runs, but back in the groove of late, and looked better than ever when winning a 7f handicap at Doncaster last time. No reason to think he won't remain in form.
Made a winning return at Wetherby last month, but just a respectable 5L fifth of 14 to Beat Le Bon at Goodwood last time, and looks vulnerable against less-exposed rivals.
Plenty of place form to his name, and made all to get off the mark at Leicester last month, albeit hanging badly throughout the closing stages. No surprise to see a visor tried after that display.
Forecasts
Awe (3/1), Blown By Wind (6/1), After John (13/2), Flashcard (7/1), Jack's Point (8/1), Riviera Nights (8/1), Mr Diamond (10/1), Regular (16/1), Athmad (16/1), Gabrial The Wire (20/1), Sunsprite (20/1), The Great Heir (20/1)
Awe had no luck at all when fancied for a valuable handicap at Haydock a couple of weeks ago, and he remains one to be positive about, but a chance is taken on handicap debutant AFTER JOHN, who won well despite the drop in trip last time, and looks open to a fair bit more improvement having made his debut only six weeks ago. If the rain hold off, Gabrial The Wire is also worth considering having won in good style at Doncaster. Flashcard probably needed his return at Goodwood and completes the shortlist.
- After John
- Awe
- Gabrial The Wire
