Winless since two-year-old days but tends to run admirably. Best effort of the year last time when fourth at Carlisle (7f; good to firm). Back down to 6f now and went close over on sole try over C&D. Big player.

Ran well in a competitive affair at Ascot two starts ago but couldn't reproduce that level of form at Newmarket (6f; good to firm) recently. Possible excuses because of the quick ground but others are less exposed.

Races over 6f for the first time this season. Looks as though it is needed as he has been below-par over 5f in two starts this term. Most recently when eighth of 12 at Pontefract (5f; good to firm). Watch the market.

Unable to justify favouritism when sent off 5-2F at Nottingham last time (5f; good to firm). That was ultimately a big disappointment on his first run in a Class 6 for some time. Must do much more now.

Won for the first time in almost three years when sluicing up at Carlisle (5f; heavy) just seven days ago. Conditions unlikely to be as extreme today, but arrives with solid credentials nonetheless as he goes back up to 6f.

One of the more reliable sorts. Not beaten far when second at Southwell (5f; standard) last time. Had won over this trip on turf prior to that and this game front-runner could take some stopping.

Had been enduring a good time of things before posting a couple of lifeless runs recently. Has gone well at Haydock in the past without winning but overall profile suggests he has a preference for the AW.

Improved upon previous showings when third at Thirsk (6f; good to soft) last time. Dropped 1lb for that effort and every possibility that he could get competitive with a light weight on his back.

Has won at this venue before but that victory came in July 2017. Really poor of late however and major revival required if he is play any role in this. Mark has slid 24lb since last win

Forecasts

Tricky Dicky (5/2), John Kirkup (4/1), Afandem (4/1), Great Midge (4/1), Suzi's Connoisseur (6/1), Case Key (11/1), Danehill Desert (12/1), Stoneyford Lane (12/1), Mutabaahy (14/1), Peachey Carnehan (16/1), Lambrini Lullaby (50/1)

Verdict

It would be a disappointment if GREAT MIDGE couldn't make it third time lucky in handicaps and finally break his maiden duck. He didn't do much wrong when having his first run back at Chepstow recently and should have much more to give on just his sixth career start. Tricky Dicky is enjoying a great time of things at present and is likely to give the selection most to think about, while John Kirkup is a solid handicapper who shaped well last time and went very nicely on his sole visit to this track when finishing third here last season.
  1. Great Midge
  2. Tricky Dicky
  3. John Kirkup
