Twice a winner last season including at Listed level but finished off with a disappointing effort. Well held in two starts this season, and while this represents a drop in class, he now has something to prove.

Built on debut effort when winning a 7f Gowran maiden in April, and improved again to land a minor event over 1m there last time despite not having the race run to suit. Will do better yet, and the one to beat here.

Won a 6f maiden at Fairyhouse last July by neck from Darkash, but not seen subsequently last year, and made no impact in a race won by Decrypt at Cork on return. Cheekpieces tried now, but others preferred.

Well beaten on sole 2-y-o outing, but much improved to land a 6f maiden at Naas in March by 1½ lengths from Sonaiyla. That race has thrown up some winners, and this colt should have more to offer, so respected.

Won a 7f maiden at Maisons-Laffitte in June last year for Matthieu Palussiere, and too free when tried over 1¼m at Roscommon last month for new yard. May well do better back in trip with that run under his belt.

Forecasts

Basic Law (10/11), All The King's Men (11/4), Western Dawn (11/2), Asdaa (8/1), Zorro Cass (16/1)

Verdict

BASIC LAW is progressing well, and was much better than the margin of victory at Gowran last time. He has the toe to cope with the drop back to seven furlongs, and looks the one they all have to beat. Western Dawn won a Naas maiden in March which has worked out well, and while an absence since that outing raises a question, he is another who looks open to significant improvement, so is feared more than Listed winner All The King's Men, who has proved a bit disappointing this year, but could benefit from the ease in class.
