Go ahead sprinter who produced a career best last time when making all at Musselburgh over 5f and looking as though there was further potential to be unlocked. That was his second win of the year; up 7lb but a leading contender.

Quirky sort (wears headgear); has proved progressive since joining this yard, off the mark at Ripon (6f); followed up with a sound run back on the AW over 5f. Positive tactics appear to suit well; not certain to run here (engaged Nottingham, Sunday).

Yard can do little wrong at the moment with her Redcar win (5f, good) forming part of the recent purple patch; showed improved form (pedigree is all speed). Up 5lb for that victory but ought to remain competitive in this grade.

Twice a winner on Fibresand at 5f (well suited by that unique surface) in lowly grade; ran poorly back on turf last time out though (Fairy Fast in fourth). Questions to answer away from Southwell; faces a one or two progressive types in this.

Turned in one of his better efforts when runner-up at Musselburgh (penultimate start) with two of today's rivals behind. One of those (Fairy Fast) has improved since then; well behind Frosted Lass last time out (form rather hit and miss).

As yet has shown little in minor events and on handicap debut after a nine month break last time at Carlisle (in a better grade than this; 7f). Now reverts to sprinting but can race freely and tends to find little of the bridle; others persuade more.

Modest sprint handicapper with just the one win to her name as a juvenile admittedly off a 15lb higher mark. A fall in the weights correlates with a loss of form (shown little this year; behind Frosted Lass last time); cheekpieces now tried.

Took a big stride forward when finishing third to Frosted Lass at Redcar (first form); repeat of that run would make her of interest in races like this. Weights should see her finish much closer; cheekpieces added to eke out some further progress.

Visor goes on for the first-time having shown his best form when running into a rampant The Defiant at Musselburgh in May. Bred to be a sprinter he failed to follow up back at Musselburgh last time in a race that featured a few of today's rivals.

Made her handicap debut after seven months off in a Redcar 6f handicap that is proving to be strong form (featured three next time out winner; including Frosted Lass). Would need to improve greatly though on that start with blinkers now tried.

Forecasts

Fairy Fast (11/4), The Defiant (3/1), Frosted Lass (4/1), Dancing Mountain (6/1), Brahma Kamal (9/1), Raquelle (14/1), North Korea (20/1), Gunnabedun (20/1), Se Green (33/1), Lady Kinsale (50/1)

Verdict

A race that despite its lowly status looks sure to produce winners and appear strong for the grade with quite a few having met before. The Defiant looks a progressive type since being allowed positive tactics in sprints and she could well defy a 7lb rise for her Musselburgh victory last month although the yard are struggling for winners of late. Fairy Fast has been in fine form of late and would be a big player if she does turn up here after a Sunday run at Nottingham. FROSTED LASS is very much going the right way and with the David Barron yard in rude health she’s taken to confirm the form with three of today’s rivals led by Raquelle from Redcar last time.
  1. Frosted Lass
  2. The Defiant
  3. Raquelle
