Must have needed the run when last at Doncaster on return from six-month break. Bettered that when midfield at Chester in atrocious conditions (seems to have a preference for better ground). Only 2lb above last winning mark so dangerous to rule out.
Holds quite a consistent CV, so something must have been amiss last time when pulled up at Chester. Perhaps it was the soft ground? Should relish these quicker conditions and he won over this trip at Lingfield (1m2f; standard) three starts back.
Been running poorly since finishing fourth in the Silver Cambridgeshire last year. First run on the level this season came at Chester over this trip at the start of the month and he was tailed off. Subsequently dropped 4lb.
Beginning to look slightly exposed but he pushed an odds-on favourite all the way at Newcastle (1m2f; standard) recently. Chance if able to reproduce that level of form which was arguably bettered last time at York over 1m4f.
Holds a thoroughly progressive profile and was a C&D winner last time out when defeating a decent sort in Lady Of Shalott. That was his third win over this trip and he is without doubt the most reliable in this field. The one they all have to beat.
Poor on both starts this season, most recently when sent off 5-2F at Bath (1m; good). Dropped 8lb by the handicapper, and step up in trip could see some improvement. Needs to do more but still has each-way prospects in a fairly weak race.
Below-par in two runs this season since going beyond 1m2f. Possibly didn't like the conditions last time at Chester (1m4f; soft). Odds-on winner over this trip at Bath (1m2f; good to soft) last season and player now back to favoured distance.

A tricky looking contest in which the safest option is to stick with the in-form BLACK LOTUS. He made it three wins from five attempts at this trip just two weeks ago over C&D, and a 4lb for that victory looks fair. Despite having to give weight away, Gossip Column improved on his comeback effort when finishing in sixth in a handicap at Chester's May meeting and he is hinting at a return to form. Similar comments apply to Anythingtoday who has contested some fiercely competitive affairs in Class 2 company over the last couple of years and should appreciate the return to calmer waters this afternoon.
