Runner-up behind a talented sprinter on debut and has run well in defeat in two starts in maiden since. Every chance he's been let in lightly by the handicapper here and should improve.

Good second over an extended 7f at Beverley (good-to-firm) on his penultimate outing. Failed to back that up off this 3lb higher mark at Leicester (7f, good-to-firm) subsequently however and not consistent; dropped 1lb in the handicap.

Steadily progressed with each start and impressive when holding on gamely at Newmarket in a 15 runner maiden last time out. That looked a decent race and the handicapper hasn't gone overboard with her opening handicap mark.

Gained a win at the fifth attempt of asking when successful at Carlisle (heavy, 6f). Well beaten in two starts for this yard though and may be of more interest when he gets his conditions again.

Improved markedly at the end of last season to win a Kempton handicap and that race has produced winner. Impressive when making all on return at Ascot last time out and a 7lb rise may not be enough to stop him in his hat-trick bid.

Winner on debut at Ascot but hasn't really backed that up, particularly in handicaps on his last few starts. Dropped 1lb but others make more appeal here.

Won at Chester on his third start and improved from his reappearance to finish runner-up in a five runner C&D handicap earlier this month. Left on the same mark and may be capable of better this season.

Showed some promise in maidens at big prices and it was a respectable effort when runner-up at Bath, stepped up to 1m2f. Not guaranteed to appreciate the drop back to this trip again though.

Sole win in five starts came on AW at Wolverhampton. Well beaten at Beverley on his return to action on debut for this yard and gelded since that run. Needs to improve for the fitting of first-time cheekpieces.

Improved from debut to win on second start at Carlisle but hasn't build on that. Stumbled coming out the stalls at Wetherby last time and has a bit to prove at present.

Twice finished runner up for Charles Hills (6f) before joining Ian Williams (also saddles Tribal Commander) for 38,000gns in October 2018; poor at Pontefract latest and needs to bounce back over a new trip.

In good form on AW towards the back end of last year but hasn't been able to replicate that since he was switched back to turf this spring. Faster ground may help and dropped 3lb.

Forecasts

Jabalaly (11/4), Whelans Way (5/1), Gabrial The Wire (7/1), Entertaining (7/1), Production (8/1), Jem Scuttle (11/1), Baby Steps (12/1), Manana Chica (16/1), Triple Distilled (20/1), Azor Ahai (20/1), Axe Axelrod (25/1), Punjab Mail (40/1)

Verdict

JABALALY looks as if he has been underestimated by the handicapper in his three runs to date and he's taken to land this on his handicap debut with a less exposed profile than his rivals. Sole filly in the line up Manana Chica won a decent looking maiden last time and is considered the main threat while Whelans Way has a 7lb rise to cope with but could still go on improving in his bid for a hat-trick.
  1. Jabalaly
