MansionBet 'National Hunt' Maiden Hurdle

Off time: 13:40 | Winning time: 5m 1.40s

Jackson Hill⁵⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-2| J: R Johnson| T: W Greatrex| BF

14/1

Has regressed with each run for this yard, despite strong market support, including his first run after a wind op. May do better now hurdling on better ground, but he clearly carries risks.

Form: 2/344-

Mister Murchan³²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-2| J: James Davies| T: R Rowe

40/1

Beat a poor field in a slow time at Aghabullogue and he looked one paced on yard debut last month. Should do better now hurdling and tackling a longer trip, but most of his rivals have achieved more.

Form: 5/3P15-

Somekindofstar¹⁴

Age: 6| Weight: 11-2| J: L P Aspell| T: L Wadham

25/1

Chased home a useful sort on sole point-to-point outing. In the process of running a big race on stable debut after a two year absence before stumbling on landing at Warwick. Could go close if none the worse for the mishap.

Form: 2/F-

Speedy Gonzalez¹⁶⁷

Age: 5| Weight: 11-2| J: Brendan Powell| T: W R Muir

100/1

Bumper form was modest and he was tailed off on hurdling debut six months ago. Hard to fancy on current evidence.

Form: 840/38-

The Butcher Said^h,t¹⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 11-2| J: Adrian Heskin| T: O Murphy| OR: 115

11/4

Close second to the useful Roaring Bull on debut but proved disappointing until his reappearance following wind surgery. Given a lot to do at Market Rasen after an early mistake, but showed enough to merit consideration in a race like this.

Form: 236/62-

Welsh Saint⁴²

Age: 5| Weight: 11-2| J: N de Boinville| T: N J Henderson

4/9

Full-brother to smart hurdler/chaser Irish Saint. Has improved with each run and a change of tactics saw him score impressively at Warwick. Makes hurdling debut at a modest level for a yard with a 31% strike rate in this discipline here.

Form: 421-

Forecasts

Welsh Saint (4/9), The Butcher Said (11/4), Jackson Hill (14/1), Somekindofstar (25/1), Mister Murchan (40/1), Speedy Gonzalez (100/1)

Most of these carry some risk but if WELSH SAINT can jump adequately and stay this far then he will take all the beating judged on a comfortable bumper victory. The Butcher Said has failed to fulfil expectations but the signs were more positive last time, whilst Jackson Hill is another to have disappointed despite having been backed as though the talent is there. Somekindofstar may have made the frame if he'd remained upright on his hurdling debut, but Mister Murchan and Speedy Gonzalez may have too much to find.
