Progressed with each run as a two-year-old at various trips; he should be at home over this 1m a trip he stuck on well over when last seen. Handicap/Fibresand debut off the back of an absence but the mark looks a fair one if he acts on the surface.
Already a C&D winner off a 3lb lower mark when making his Fibresand debut (first-time blinkers), settled better once he got to the front. Blew his chance at the start at Kempton last time over 7f; gelded since, needs to bounce back.
Fibresand debut on his second handicap start showing some ability last time although he looks as though he needs to find some progress to win off marks of 70 plus. Switch to this surface may help but has work to do on the bare form.
On the form he showed last time it may be a wise move to drop him back to 1m as he improved making his handicap debut over 1m2f. He has gained some experience of this surface (not seen to advantage); of some interest at a price.
The addition of first-time hood/tongue-tie for his handicap debut pushed him in the right direction over 1m at Pontefract (looked a far better horse than he had as a juvenile). Did have the best draw and run of the race; Fibresand debut, shortlisted.
Has returned this season with two sound runs here in minor events over lesser trips although he is vulnerable in those events to unexposed sorts. Dropped 5lb from his only previous handicap try his Fibresand experience could pay off here.
The most experienced of this crowd on Fibresand (2-6) with both wins coming over 7f off much lower marks. Routed the opposition in her last win so deserves her chance in this grade after running with credit on her Tapeta debut (7f) last time.
Forecasts
Natty Night (11/4), Fiction Writer (7/2), Love Your Work (6/1), Sylviacliffs (6/1), Ollivander (7/1), Gennaro (7/1), Sarasota Star (10/1)
Three-year-old handicaps tend to be a tricky puzzle to solve and this one is no exception especially as three of these are yet to run on this surface. GENNARO looks to be one of the leading contenders judged on how he ran at Pontefract last time despite having the run of that race from a good draw his connections are no strangers to winners here and being by Harbour Watch the surface should suit. Sylviacliffs has some smart form on Fibresand but is untested at this trip while Ollivander should fare better back in handicaps. Sarasota Star isn’t out of this and he could step forward back in trip and back on Fibresand.
- Gennaro
- Ollivander
- Sarasota Star
