Deserves a medal for his consistency, not out of the first two in his last eight starts and has three wins at Newcastle to his name. Handicapper piles on the pressure but he keeps responding with gusto, and must be a player again.

C&D when last seen, that being in October, and that win did come somewhat out of the blue (sent off 16-1) as he'd not shown much the time before. Hard to predict here, but may need the run, and on that others preferred.

Better on the all-weather than the turf, and has a win and two places to his name at this track. Solid effort at Leicester at the turn of the month and although he looks handicapped to the hilt, will give it a go.

Ex-William Haggas inmate having only his second run for Brian Ellison here. Went backwards after promising debut but it was a step back in the right direction for new yard last time, and improvement may be possible. Not discounted.

Only four wins in 52 starts, last one coming here in the spring of 2018. Not a bad effort here last time out and he remains in good form. Needs a bit more but has place chances all the same.

A regular here, and in nine starts at the track, has three wins and four other placed efforts to his name. Bit one-paced last time but a better effort can be expected here if they go a solid gallop.

Has some hope if you take his close second over C&D in January at face value, especially as he's 4lb lower here, and the fact the hood reappears (has been on for last four wins). Plenty to like about his chances, and one to consider.

0-13 now and although he looks sure to get an easy lead here, has no realistic chance from so far out of the handicap.

Forecasts

Rey Loopy (7/4), Chosen World (3/1), Glengarry (11/2), Custard The Dragon (11/2), Chaplin Bay (9/1), Algaffaal (14/1), Luis Vaz De Torres (16/1), Middlescence (250/1)

Verdict

A race that's muddled by the lack of pace, with only the likely outsider Middlescence wanting to front run, and a bit of caution is advised. REY LOOPY simply looks the most solid option in a race full of ifs and buts, as he seems happy off a fast or slow pace, has stacks of course form and holds it well. Luis Vaz De Torres may well do better now the hood is back on, and he rates the danger, with Chaplin Bay and Custard The Dragon to fight it out for the minor medal.
