Won twice in each of the last two seasons but taken his time to hit top form in both campaigns. Should be sharper for Doncaster reappearance, remains 2lb above previous winning mark.

Won at Redcar in August last year off 6lb lower and ended term with 1L fourth in Class 2 Doncaster handicap over 6f (good to soft). Has twice won off similar layoffs, so very much one for the shortlist.

Gained sixth career success (6-41) over this trip at Hamilton in August on penultimate start, can be forgiven final effort in ultra-competitive heavy-ground Ayr sprint. Mixed record fresh, this mark not beyond him however.

Won this last year on reappearance from 2lb higher, not seen again until the autumn when bitterly disappointing in turf starts at Doncaster and York. Better shapes on the AW over the winter, cannot be dismissed back here.

Now some 18lb below his career high ratings in 2017 but that down to a forgettable 2018 campaign. No sign of turnaround on last month's stable debut at Doncaster (6f, good to firm).

C&D winner, hasn't tasted success anywhere since 2016 however. Ran well here last summer sporting first-time cheekpieces (absent now) be second over 5f. Capable fresh and handicap mark gives him a chance.

Had another wind op over the winter and duly scored over C&D on seasonal bow this month sporting first-time eye-shield. Followed up since over 5f at Musselburgh, for which he carries a 5lb penalty.

Scored here over 5f in final 2017 start and went in again on reappearance at Doncaster (5f, soft) last year. Well held since however and recent Ripon appearance didn't inspire confidence.

Looked promising early when winning a maiden and placed at Newmarket on handicap debut but became disappointing after and left Richard Hannon for 12,000 gns over the winter. Last of 11 on stable bow at Windsor (6f, good) this month.

Profitable performer on the AW over 6f, though strike rate on turf is nowhere near as good and has previously failed to fire on a number of track outings (only one good run here). Others preferred.

Ended last season with gallant Nottingham success (5f, soft) in Class 4 fare, gets on well with this rider and all the sharper for recent comeback at Ripon (5f, good; third). Likely can go forward again this season.

Winner six times from first 15 starts, but 0-8 since and has seemingly lost his way. Passive start on reappearance at Ripon and never involved, coming home behind all 17 rivals.

A nine-time winner from 69 starts, albeit with a few quirks - can fluff the start; decisive winner off a similar mark here in late 2017 (soft), and finished fourth of 23 in the 2018 Ayr Bronze Cup (heavy). Long way behind Pennsylvania Dutch latest.

Windsor maiden success in 2016 remains only win on turf (1-10), 7f AW winner at Lingfield in January off a mark of 77, though has string of poor runs in that sphere since. Needs to bounce back.

Verdict

Having ended last season with a pleasing effort in better company at Doncaster, it seems DALTON should have strong claims here. He's won on his seasonal debut in each of the previous two season and his mark is unchanged from that Town Moor fourth in the autumn while he's dropping in class here. He's still quite lightly raced and can take this ahead of the likes of Black Isle Boy, Wrenthorpe, Orion's Bow and the in-form Pennsylvania Dutch.
