Front-runner who made all to win at Pontefract over a mile last summer but hasn't been seen since September. Drops back to 7f on AW debut and market may indicate if he's fancied to go well. Won first time out last year.
Good record of 4-11 on AW but is very lightly raced over last two seasons. Hasn't run since last June and will likely be better for the outing unless betting indicates otherwise.
Two wins at this trip at Chelmsford last summer and a fair second on final start of campaign at Lingfield in September. Looks type to progress this year and remains unexposed so fair chance with yard in good form.
Bought for just 9,000 guineas at Autumn Sales having failed to shine in three starts for David Simcock last term. Is 1-10 on all-weather and may need a run or two for new yard before he gets his eye in.
Shamardal gelding who failed to make it to the racecourse for Roger Varian. Ran three times last season for current yard winning Beverley novice stakes in May and finishing fourth on final start at Thirsk in July. Makes handicap debut.
Formerly trained by Karl Burke and bought for 30,000 guineas end of last campaign. Won Haydock 7f h'cap and second off 86 at Chester in July. All Weather debut here and interesting to see how he adapts.
Landed second of two wins in December over C&D and wasn't disgraced last time at Southwell in Class 2 event. Drops down in grade and eased 2lb so should give supporters a run for their money.
Eight-time Southwell winner but has failed to even reach a place here in four attempts. Not disgraced on last run here but suspicion 7f on this surface is a little sharp for him.
Won in good style here last time over this trip and 3lb rise looks very fair. Faces better opposition this time but no surprise to see him go close once again in current mood.
Gives the impression of still being in handicapper's grip despite falling 20lb since September. Not sure track plays to his strengths and would be a surprise if he pops up, although first-time blinkers may help focus his mind.
Forecasts
Margub (7/2), Lamloom (5/1), Sureyoutoldme (11/2), Robero (11/2), Reckless Endeavour (13/2), Elerfaan (15/2), Humble Gratitude (16/1), Hammer Gun (20/1), Ghalib (25/1), Quixote (50/1)
Plenty with chances in an open handicap but with his yard in good form the still unexposed MARGUB can make a winning start to his 2019 campaign. Sureyoutold me won over C&D in lower grade last time but did it well so has to be considered, along with Robero who ran with credit in a better race last time out. Any money for first-time blinkered Reckless Endeavour would be worth noting as, despite failing to shine for some time he is well handicapped on the best of his old form.
- Margub
- Robero
- Reckless Endeavour
