Ploughed through soft ground to justify favouritism on debut at Goodwood in October, but was found wanting in Group 3 company next time and recent reappearance on the AW was no more than satisfactory. High enough in the weights on handicap bow.

Solid placed efforts before going in at the fifth time of asking and seasonal reappearance at Lingfield (long odds-on). Much more to do back in a handicap, but confidence should be high. Stable won this last year.

Winner twice as a juvenile and although he was flying too high in Group 2 company at Goodwood, he signed off with a decent effort at Chelmsford. First run in a handicap with stable in good form.

Saw off Beat Le Bon in a Doncaster nursery in October, but is 9lb worse off for a 3¼L verdict. First run of the season, but was progressive when last seen and may continue to improve.

Winner of one of his six races when trained in France by Eoghan O'Neill. Debut for this stable and difficult to get a handle on the value of his form. The betting should prove informative.

Won twice with give in the ground in the autumn before signing off for the season with a bold bid in a 16-runner nursery at Doncaster, Starts a new campaign off 2lb higher and is respected with any ease in the going.

Back-to-back wins before finishing well down the field behind Happy Power at Doncaster on final run of last season. May have been over the top by then and could bounce back after his winter break.

Scored three times as a juvenile, including in a Goodwood nursery on final start. Up 7lb against less exposed opposition, but will handle underfoot conditions and should go well.

Kept very busy as a juvenile and was largely consistent. Holds few secrets from the handicapper, however, and a gelding operation will need to have had a beneficial effect.

Clicked at the sixth time of asking when winning a 13-runner Doncaster maiden in October. Had previously finished second in at Catterick handicap off a 9lb lower mark than this so clearly has a bit to find.

Useful form as a juvenile and, after being gelded in the winter, he returned to action with a decent fourth in a quite valuable handicap at Naas. Has been dropped 1lb and has each-way claims.

Won a Thirsk novice event last August, but only run in a nursery saw him finish third of five at Chelmsford. Gelded since that run and makes his reappearance in a better race.

Generally progressive as a two-year-old, wining two of his last three races and showing a liking for ease in the ground. Has undergone a gelding operation and is up 2lb for his return to action.

Lihou153
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-5| J: J P Fahy| T: P D Evans| OR:  80

Ran nine times last season and form tailed off in the autumn. More exposed than most of these and is not obviously well handicapped.

Forecasts

Happy Power (9/4), Beat Le Bon (5/1), Topical (8/1), Shallow Hal (9/1), Reeves (10/1), Wasntexpectingthat (11/1), Chairmanoftheboard (12/1), Blonde Warrior (14/1), Sparklealot (20/1), Lincoln Park (20/1), Tulfarris (33/1), Lihou (33/1), Hackle Setter (40/1), Tin Hat (50/1)

Verdict

Quite a strong handicap in which decent chances can be given to Blonde Warrior, Shallow Hal, Lincoln Park, Sparklealot and Wasntexpectingthat. However, the key race in solving this puzzle may be the Doncaster contest in which HAPPY POWER overcame Beat Le Bon. Even though the latter is quite a bit better off in the weights, the form may be confirmed. French import Tulfarris is another interesting contender.
  1. Happy Power
  2. Beat Le Bon
  3. Blonde Warrior
