Career best came when finishing a nose second to the American speedster Shang Shang Shang in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm); made no impact in the Breeders Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs (5½f) in November.
Much improved performer from August onward; very pacy type who rounded off his juvenile campaign with a ready 2½L defeat of Angel Alexander in a 5f novice at York (good); more on his plate in this company.
Cost 130,000 as a foal; cruised clear at short odds when winning for the second time in his career (6f, Newcastle); not so effective in Group 3/Listed races thereafter (on soft/good to soft); first start over 5f, and against very pacy individuals.
Four-time juvenile winner (5f-7f) - most commonly on the AW; hasn't been in the same form since a winter jaunt to Dubai and has plenty to find against some of the others on these disadvantageous terms (rated 88).
Bath novice winner (5f, firm) for today's rider Theodore Ladd; showed plenty of pace before weakening in a similar Conditions Stakes race at Windsor (5f, good to firm) when last in competitive action 284-days ago; looks to be out of her depth.
Forecasts
Pocket Dynamo (6/4), Garrus (13/8), Broken Spear (7/2), Shining Armor (14/1), Mawde (33/1)
A frantic dash for the cash is on the cards with the progressive Broken Spear, the vulnerable Mawde, and the top-rated POCKET DYNAMO all possessing pace a plenty. In theory this could potentially suit the Jeremy Noseda-trained 6f winner Garrus. However, there's simply no denying that the Robert Cowell charge has the strongest form in the book, and if able to match his mid-summer 2018 juvenile form off a five-month break, then he should win.
- Pocket Dynamo
- Garrus
- Broken Spear
