Slade Power colt; made a winning debut at Kempton (6f) in June, and despite not progressing as quickly as expected thereafter could still prove capable of winning more races; half-brother to the speedy Tomily; handicap/seasonal debut.
Three-time AW winner; 5lb higher than when beating Fair Alibi by ½L on his penultimate start at Southwell (5f); 0-4 on turf during his early racing career.
Dam was a 5f juvenile winner, and he maintained that tradition when beating Summer Blossom by ½L in the Slip Anchor maiden over C&D in October (good); has left the care of William Haggas since; handicap/stable debut.
Carlisle novice winner (5f, good to firm) in June, but slacked off considerably following a mid-season break; needs to regain some positive momentum now switched to handicapping.
Yarmouth winner (5f, good to firm) for Chris Dwyer in June; back on track with a pleasing third to Major Blue at Wolverhampton (6f) in February; further scope to progress in handicaps (debut); SDS back aboard.
Cost €75,000 as a juvenile; progressive from September onward winning at Ffos Las and Beverley (both 5f, good); solid fourth of 13 to Blyton in a 5f+ York nursery in October; one of the probable pace angles.
Decisive 5f winner on nursery debut at Sandown (5/4f) in August; not totally disgraced in stronger races from an elevated mark thereafter; needs to have progressed over the winter in order to trouble the judge off a mark of 78.
5f Yarmouth winner (good to firm); ended her juvenile campaign by finishing 3L third to Summer Blossom in a 5f novice at Bath (good to soft); outside place chance on handicap debut.
Has masses of previous racing experience (1-12); finished a neck runner-up to today's rival Sandridge Lad at Southwell (5f) in November; 6lb higher for seasonal return.
Left Sir Michael Stoute for 30,000gns in October (0-5); more than likely he's capable of winning a race or two for new connections; forced the pace when finishing 2½L fourth to Glorious Charmer at Yarmouth (6f) in October.
Finished down the field in a 5f Haydock nursery (good to soft) in September, having earlier won a moderate 5f Musselburgh novice median auction by 1L from Dancing Rave; others more promising.
Not the easiest of horses as a juvenile (5f Thirsk winner); rounded off a mixed campaign by finishing ¾L second to Deputise in a 5f Class 4 handicap at Newcastle in November.
Forecasts
Enchanted Linda (4/1), Baby Steps (11/2), Typhoon Ten (13/2), Dark Shadow (8/1), Aloysius Lilius (9/1), Phoenix Star (10/1), Khafooq (11/1), Free Love (12/1), Pink Iceburg (12/1), True Hero (16/1), Raypeteafterme (22/1), Sandridge Lad (40/1)
An open-looking race with a number of those in the line-up recommencing their racing careers from new quarters. Both Khafooq and the C&D maiden winner True Hero fall into this category, and should win races for Robert Cowell and Nigel Tinkler respectively. Typhoon Ten is a well-related, pacy individual who could fare better for the break, whilst Enchanted Linda was progressive in the second half of last season for Richard Hannon. However, the tentative pick is the now Amy Murphy-trained PHOENIX STAR who returned from a lengthy absence with a solid effort at Wolverhampton (February), and has the distinct benefit of having Silvestre De Sousa back aboard.
- Phoenix Star
- Enchanted Linda
- Khafooq
