Haasabv106
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-12| J: Tabitha Worsley(7)| T: Laura Morgan| OR:  100WS
7/2
Runner-up (beaten 1¼L) over the extended 2m at this track (good) in November, and placed on both subsequent starts; remains feasibly handicapped returning from a short break for wind surgery.
2
Horse silk
Eolianp21
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-11| J: Fergus Gregory(5)| T: O Murphy| OR:  99
11/4
Ran by far his best race over hurdles for Olly Murphy at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) last month when keeping on from off the pace to finish second to Shanroe Tic Tec (a winner since); can he back up?
3
Horse silk
Barnayb23
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-5| J: Kieron Edgar| T: C Ellam| OR:  100
25/1
Has appeared light on ability in five starts over hurdles, and truthfully was no star on the Flat either (58-rated); hard to envisage him playing any sort of positive role despite a steady fall in the weights.
4
Horse silk
Murchison Riverb1,t78
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-5| J: Jonathan England| T: S England| OR:  93| BF
13/2
Successful from a 9lb lower mark at Leicester (1m7f+, good to firm) in December and has run reasonably well on both subsequent starts, albeit not quite delivering the goods off the bridle at Newcastle; the newly applied blinkers could assist.
5
Horse silk
Bowiep14
Age: 12|  Weight: 11-4| J: Tom Broughton(7)| T: N Kent| OR:  92| CD
7/1
Veteran three-time course winner (2m-2m2f+) who handles most conditions; appreciates forcing the pace and ran better than the bare finishing positions imply (fifth) latest; eased 2lb in the weights since.
6
Horse silk
Bolister23
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-4| J: Joshua Moore| T: G & J Moore| OR:  92| BF
3/1
Placed on all three starts in 2019 (2m-2m1f+), inching up the weights a combined total of 3lb in the process; couldn't match the finishing kick of King Muro when beaten 2½L at Plumpton (2m, soft) 23-days ago.

For Jim209
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-3| J: Sean Quinlan| T: J Candlish| OR:  91
13/2
Nine-race maiden; unable to replicate anything remotely near his April 2018 second-placed finish at Bangor (2m3f+, good to soft) in four subsequent starts; all hopes pinned upon a 209-day break doing the trick.
8
Horse silk
Biddy Be18
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-0| J: Thomas Dowson(3)| T: Mark Campion| OR:  88
66/1
Eight-race maiden with bits and pieces of form over hurdles in Ireland for Henry De Bromhead; tailed-off and pulled up on debut for this trainer at Newcastle (2m, heavy) last month.
9
Horse silk
Four Mile Beach7
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-12| J: Pte Alexandra Bell(7)| T: M C Chapman| OR:  86
66/1
22-race maiden (0-14 over hurdles); has run okay on a couple of occasions at this track in the past (2m) when trained by the late Malcolm Jefferson; a recent spin on the AW at Southwell should've blown away a few cobwebs.
10
Horse silk
Port Lairge62
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-0| J: Jamie Brace(7)| T: M C Chapman| OR:  70
100/1
11-race hurdles maiden; slowly away and reluctant to race on his comeback run on the AW at Southwell in January; stablemate of Four Mile Beach; thoroughly unappealing.

Forecasts

Eolian (11/4), Bolister (3/1), Haasab (7/2), Murchison River (13/2), For Jim (13/2), Bowie (7/1), Barnay (25/1), Mighty Mustang (33/1), Four Mile Beach (66/1), Biddy Be (66/1), Port Lairge (100/1)

Verdict

With the greatest of respect to connections, this opening race features a number of horses who we can politely describe as 'characters'. Murchison River doesn't always deliver the goods off the bridle but has plenty of ability in the context of this race, so could prove a more straightforward proposition in the newly applied blinkers. Haasab remains feasibly handicapped, and it'll be no surprise if he's on the radar come the finish, whilst Bolister should find a race sooner or later for Gary Moore. However, the vote goes to EOLIAN who caught the eye with a strong late finishing effort at Huntingdon and could fare better still now stepping back up in trip.
  1. Eolian
  2. Bolister
  3. Murchison River
