just the one run in the Godolphin for trainer Saeed bin Suroor, finishing fourth of 10 beaten ¾L when last seen in November 2016 over a similar trip on the AW at Lingfield. Cost £6,000 in the Doncaster January sales and best watched on return.

Gelding by Dawn Approach out of a Danehill mare. Half-brother to a number of winners, Jackhammer and Raven Banner among them. Will look to follow up on promising debut last month here over 1m2½f finishing third of 12 beaten 4½L.

90,000gns as a yearling before the price dropped to £2,800 last summer. Encouraging second of nine beaten 1¾L on racecourse debut here over 1m earlier this month. Enters calculations.

Highly tried on Flat as a juvenile and showed ability in pattern company. 10th of 11 beaten 10L on sole start here in October. Still looking no nearer to a breakthrough success on second start for new connections.

€40,000 buy from Godolphin in November but has stayed in this yard. Seventh of eight beaten a little over 5L on second start here. Any market move would be worth noting for inform yard.

Filly by Society Rock out of an Ivan Denisovich mare. Not disgraced finishing 4¾L behind Cautious Ambition here over C&D earlier this month but this looks a tall order.

Shamardal half-sister to a couple of winners on the AW. Needs to have improved over the winter following a couple of dismal efforts last spring for trainer David Lanigan. Others preferred.

Filly by Dream Ahead out of a Danehill mare. Fourth foal. Sister to Listed winner Making Light. Dam won over 1m4f. Plenty to like about her debut third of nine beaten 2L over C&D earlier this month. Improvement on that run would not surprise.

Motivator filly that has run well over this C&D on several occasions and one that deserves a change of luck. The filly has hit the frame over the combination on four occasions from five starts and could well do the same in this contest.

Filly by Power out of a Action This Day mare. Cost just €800 as a yearling and will almost certainly need the run on debut in this company.

Forecasts

Active Approach (2/1), Stranagone (3/1), Media Deal (9/2), Smile Ahead (8/1), Mutadaawel (11/1), Heavens Align (12/1), Coolest King (16/1), Swiss Cottage (16/1), High Mark (25/1), Khawaatem (33/1), Crystal Pool (100/1), The Green Bus (100/1)

Verdict

There was plenty to like about the debut of SMILE AHEAD when finishing third of nine beaten 2L over C&D earlier this month. The Dream Ahead filly can improve to take control in this contest ahead of the Jim Bolger-trained, Active Approach, the potential improving Mutadaawel and the solid and consistent Stranagone who will be looking to get her head in front at the ninth time of asking for connections.
  1. Smile Ahead
  2. Active Approach
  3. Stranagone
