Happiest when able to get his toe into the ground on turf, a 7f soft-ground winner at Ayr in October 2018; returns to action off a 147-day break as a relatively unexposed horse on synthetics (juvenile winner for Godolphin).

In rude health during the autumn with back-to-back 7f wins at Yarmouth and Chelmsford; now 8lb above her last winning mark, albeit was beaten off just 2lb lower by a very heavily punted winner at Kempton (7f) in November.

Five-time AW winner; has lacked consistency over the past 18 months or so, sliding sharply down the weights; difficult to envisage if a revival will ever be forthcoming; watching (and hoping) brief.

Plenty of water has flowed downstream since this gelding won from a mark of 84 over C&D in November 2017 (for Hughie Morrison); rates as unappealing based upon a trio of poor efforts so far in 2019.

Won for the fourth time at this track (6f x3, 7f x1) when finishing strongly to beat Fareeq by ¾L earlier this month; given a 3lb rise for that success and should just about remain competitive in a open race.

Ten-race maiden with bits & pieces of mildly encouraging course form (6f-7f); not overburdened from his current perch; might've feasibly needed a couple of quick runs around the turn of the year but a slight worry is the subsequent two-month break.

8/1
Kicked off the calendar year with a couple of wins (over 7f); at his very best here at Dunstall Park, so it's probably wise not to focus heavily upon his more recent efforts at Southwell; difficult draw wide in stall 12.

Age: 5|  Weight: 9-3| J: Rossa Ryan| T: Alexandra Dunn| OR:  62| CD
16/1
Pace-setter who is a three-time AW winner; unfortunately for connections, De Little Engine appears to have fallen off since a gritty C&D win in July 2018 (from a 3lb higher mark); risky proposition at present.

Slow to make his mark, but has made up for lost time since fitted with a visor and a switch to front-running tactics; on a four-timer (has risen a total of 15lb in the weights) following a trio of 7f Kempton wins.

Forecasts

Elusif (7/4), Agent Of Fortune (10/3), Tavener (4/1), Roaring Forties (13/2), Bobby Joe Leg (7/1), Grey Destiny (8/1), Peachey Carnehan (9/1), De Little Engine (16/1), Takeonefortheteam (16/1), Christmas Night (16/1), Makaarim (18/1), Bouclier (20/1)

Verdict

Finding the winner is a tough assignment, but plenty can be considered with the likes of the thriving Elusif bidding to maintain his winning sequence and the hardworking Tavener holding his form admirably despite having faced the starter on no fewer than five occasions this month. Others with possible claims include the recent course winner Peachey Carnehan and the more moderately drawn course specialist Grey Destiny. However, the tentative vote goes to the returning AGENT OF FORTUNE who was in rude health during the autumn, running right to her very best when beaten by the heavily punted Briyouni at Kempton in mid-November.
  1. Agent Of Fortune
  2. Peachey Carnehan
  3. Grey Destiny
