Fairly low-key over fences since scoring at Ayr (2m2f, heavy) in February 2017; more reliable back over the smaller obstacles of late, and did manage to win a novices' hurdle over this trip at Ayr (heavy) in late November.

Without a win since June 2016 (3m, Hexham) but in fairness has only competed over fences on four occasions since; 2lb lower than when finishing 9½L third to Knocknamona at Carlisle (2m4f, soft) latest; step back up in trip a positive move.

Difficult to win with, but did notch back-to-back victories in late 2017/early 2018 under the vastly experienced riders Aidan Coleman and Richard Johnson; kept on from the second last to finish 7¼L fourth to Astracad over C&D 11-days ago.

Hasn't looked the part over fences (0-5), and is rated 20lb lower than over hurdles accordingly; newly-applied visor needs to have a positive effect; trainer saddled a winner at Hexham on Thursday.

Mudlark who appreciates an extreme test of stamina, so the more rain that falls the merrier; 5lb lower than when finishing a close-up third to Chic Name in the Highland National (3m6f+, soft) at Perth in April 2018; front-runner.

Forecasts

Craiganboy (9/4), Newberry New (5/2), King Golan (11/4), Ueueteotl (3/1), Onderun (11/2), Aengus (15/2)

Verdict

A race in which pitching a selection isn't the easiest of tasks. King Golan has improved dramatically but soft ground and the prediction of a continued deluge on Saturday makes him a very risky proposition at short odds, and furthermore he faces competition for the lead from the hardy stayer Onderun. Therefore, a tentative shout is for the Aztec warrior UEUETEOTL. James Ewart's 11yo is a more proficient fencer than the likes of Craiganboy and Aengus, and looks feasibly handicapped off a mark which is 7lb lower than when finishing a fair third to Bright Prospect and the 2019 Grimthorpe Chase winner Chidswell at Kelso 14-months ago.
