Course winner off a 6lb higher mark over a furlong shorter (November 2017); he's fallen down the weights since then without really looking like adding another victory. Takes a step into the unknown over 1m here; comes with risks attached.

Improved over C&D for his handicap debut (first-time cheekpieces) receiving a patient ride; penny dropped late on. Left with a lot to do and he's now hooded again as he seeks to build on that first handicap outing; progress likely.

Last seen when pulling up over hurdles at Punchestown in first-time cheekpieces having returned to form the last time he was seen on the Flat over 1m4f here (basement grade). Blinkers now return as he steps down 4f in trip; limited appeal.

A record of 0-26 on the Flat is hardly one that sets the pulse racing and minus the headgear he worn in two previous races and off a break he ran poorly over C&D last time. Headgear now returns but a major improvement needed to get involved.

Dual course winner with one of those wins coming over today's trip he now sits on a basement mark again. Ran a creditable third last time back from a break over C&D behind an improving sort in the grade who has won again since.

Trainer building a good reputation for doing well with new recruits but will need to have found the key to this disappointing sort. They do have a basement mark to work with and she has won on the AW (7f); market should reveal more.

Showed very little for his previous yard in three AW starts; ran better on his second outing than on his debut for this yard the form is still modest. No chance with in-form and improving winner on that occasion; nothing of that ilk in this field.

Made very little impact in varied events including handicaps at up to 1m4f when with Tim Easterby. Showed even less on her first outing for this yard over C&D; would be a major surprise to see her involved.

Very little to show for six outings in maidens/handicaps and left Mick Quinn after her fourth start. Remains with little to show for her two starts for this yard; upped to 1m4f when last seen a fair while ago. Hard to see her getting involved.

Has been known to surprise on a few occasions on the Flat and over hurdles although he has popped up on the Flat for a while. He showed some signs of life over hurdles last time; may be able to get involved off a lowly mark on the back of that run.

Forecasts

La Cumparsita (2/1), Don't Be Surprised (2/1), Lukoutoldmakezebak (11/4), Insurplus (6/1), Manomine (10/1), Lord Rob (20/1), Deolali (33/1), Rioja Day (50/1), Whisper A Word (125/1), Circuit (125/1)

Verdict

Only a very modest affair and not many of these can boast of body of work that is bet compelling. DON'T BE SURPRISED has less question marks against him than most though having run a sound enough race last time out over C&D when left with plenty to do. Lukoutoldmakezebak is a C&D winner who ran with credit here last time and deserves respect while Deolali met a real improver last time and a repeat of that run would give him a chance. The market needs watching with regard to La Cumparista for a yard with a good record with new recruits and Rioja Day isn’t written off having shown some spark over hurdles last time.
  1. Don't Be Surprised
