11-race maiden but had been producing some consistent performances for Clive Cox until something presumably went amiss at Leicester in October. Fourth in an uncompetitive maiden on stable debut and improvement required.

Never in it after a slow start when tried over 1m4f last time, but scored over 1m1f here on previous start and the third has won since.

Claims on some of her novice form but soon checked out on handicap debut and has questions to answer.

Has won twice over C&D this winter and beaten twice since in slowly run races over further. Returns from a break under a top rider who is 0-4 for the stable.

Has won twice this winter but struggled off this mark last time. Eyeshield fitted on this occasion but others look more attractively weighted.

Looked one paced at Southwell on penultimate start and no surprise to see connections revert to more positive tactics last time. Work to do to overturn form with Regular Income, but blinkers may make a difference.

Failing to progress at present but at least is back to the distance which produced one of his better performances. Makes handicap debut.

Maiden has been given a chance by the handicapper but latest efforts, including that over hurdles, hardly inspire much confidence.

Two runs back from a break seemed to put him right for a bold show last time and he does not need to improve much in order to figure under a rider who is good value for his claim.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-3| J: A Mullen| T: Adrian Nicholls| OR:  66

Acquired cheaply out of William Haggas' yard and now makes her handicap debut having shown little in any of her three starts.

Big run at 80/1 last time and, having not won since taking his maiden, it remains to be seen if he can back that up. Stable in form so that is a possibility.

In good form at present and unlucky to bump into Executive Force last time when 2lb out of the handicap. Drops in class and the one to beat judged on that effort.

His three AW wins have come on Tapeta but he has gone well here in the past. 5lb higher than for his last victory in December but he ran well last time after blowing the start and cannot be ruled out.

Forecasts

Gas Monkey (5/2), Channel Packet (7/2), Francophilia (7/1), The Night King (8/1), Gates Pass (10/1), Global Wonder (10/1), Regular Income (12/1), King Oswald (12/1), Rubensian (12/1), Jamaican Jill (16/1), Bayston Hill (16/1), Apache Blaze (20/1), Laqab (25/1), The Jean Genie (33/1), Taraayef (33/1), Club Tropicana (66/1)

Verdict

Rubensian is undoubtedly the best handicapped horse in this but he has gone 16 races without a win and looks like he needs a lot to go his way. Bayston Hill and Apache Blaze are on winnable marks and the former's yard are in better shape. Laqab and Channel Packet are other possibilities, but Francophilia is disappointing. GAS MONKEY faced a difficult task last time behind a progressive rival when out of the weights. This looks a lot easier and he can gain reward for his admirable consistency.
  1. Gas Monkey
  2. Bayston Hill
  3. Channel Packet
