7/2
Unexposed on the AW (1-2) and just 3lb higher than when beating the front-running Bowson Fred (Primo's Comet third) over C&D in January; ought to take a good deal of beating with a useful 7lb claimer in the saddle.

Dapper Man154
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-7| J: Ben Sanderson(5)| T: R Fell & S Murray| OR:  80| D
40/1
In good form last year recording five wins all at the minimum trip (mainly on good to firm ground); yet to win on the AW (0-7) and comes here off a break; best watched.

Tan30
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-6| J: Theodore Ladd(5)| T: M Appleby| OR:  79| D
9/1
Made all and won unchallenged from a 4lb lower mark at Lingfield (6f) in December but not so effective since and such racing tactics are far more difficult to successfully employ at Newcastle (faces competition for the lead).

Primo's Comet9
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-6| J: Alistair Rawlinson| T: J S Goldie| OR:  79| CD
3/1
C&D winner off an 8lb lower mark in June 2018; made the frame when beaten just 1¼L by Fendale over C&D in January; holds realistic place prospects, albeit with the sneaking suspicion that he'll not be able to reverse those placings.

Rumshakb105
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-4| J: P Mulrennan| T: M Dods| OR:  77| CD
10/1
Made all in the first-time blinkers (retained) when justifying market support over C&D in August (Class 5); 2lb higher in the weights with his three subsequent starts implying that was only modest form at best; arrives fresh from a break.

Tommy G13
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-4| J: Phil Dennis(3)| T: J S Goldie| OR:  77
12/1
Stablemate of Primo's Comet; still a maiden on the AW (0-11) but posted an improved effort when finishing a staying on third to Epeius over 6f here a fortnight ago; suitability of this shorter trip an obvious concern.

Justice Lady142
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-3| J: L Morris| T: R M H Cowell| OR:  76| D

As a sprinter has plenty of scope to win more races for this trainer; proved herself on an artificial surface when finishing a neck second to Consequences over C&D in early October; off since, but just 1lb higher.

Another Angel9
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-3| J: Cam Hardie| T: A Brittain| OR:  76| CD
5/1
A consistent C&D performer since October 2018 (2,2,1,2,6,1,4,1). However, is stepping up in grade (from Class 5 & 6 handicaps) and as a result now requires a career best effort from a surging handicap mark.

Nibras Again148
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-1| J: Callum Rodriguez| T: P T Midgley| OR:  74| D
14/1
Without a win in five AW starts (handles Polytrack) for Ismail Mohammed but rounded off his most recent turf campaign in decent form; bought for 18,000gns in October and debuts for a trainer renowned for his prowess with sprinters.

Gold Stone26
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-13| J: J P Spencer| T: K A Ryan| OR:  72| D
9/1
Twice a winner in nine career starts (1-3 on the AW); 3lb higher than when picking up the pieces from off the pace to score by a neck at Lingfield in December; with plenty of early pace in the race this could be run to suit.

Orient Class23
Age: 8|  Weight: 8-13| J: Ben Robinson(3)| T: P T Midgley| OR:  72| D
40/1
Difficult to consider on the strength of his form during 2018, but becoming dangerously handicapped and has previous at this track (narrowly beaten off a 5lb higher mark in March 2017); stablemate of Nibras Again.

Forecasts

Primo's Comet (3/1), Fendale (7/2), Another Angel (5/1), Gold Stone (9/1), Tan (9/1), Rumshak (10/1), Tommy G (12/1), Nibras Again (14/1), Justice Lady (28/1), Orient Class (40/1), Dapper Man (40/1)

Verdict

With the strong possibility of better to come on the AW, a confident shout goes up for the cosy C&D winner FENDALE. With pace on the cards with the likes of Rumshak, Tan and Dapper Man all capable of cutting searching early fractions, this race will be run to suit the selection (same applies to Gold Stone). Furthermore, his subsequent 3lb rise in the weights for beating Bowson Fred and tonight's rival Primo's Comet is effectively negated (and more) via the 7lb claim of the talented Harry Russell. Of the remainder, both Justice Lady and Nibras Again are worthy of consideration for their respective handlers.
  1. Fendale
  2. Justice Lady
  3. Gold Stone
