Horse A-Z
Papal Bull newcomer out of a dam related to an Oaks winner. Two full-brothers in the same yard are both maidens who would struggle at this level.
€48,000 son of Court Cave. Seventh foal of a dam who has only produced a point-to-point winner. Stable generally have a good record in bumpers, but a 1-8 record in such races here is below average.
Fair Mix gelding whose dam was modest but is from extended family of high-class Waterloo Boy. Tailed off on debut and unlikely to have improved enough.

Half-brother to five winners in France, two in AQPS Flat races. Stable in decent form and, aside from a quiet bumper season for them, their five-year strike rate in this discipline is 31%.

Not beaten far in a maiden point-to-point last October and purchased for £45,000 at Goffs Sales not long after.Yard 4-15 in bumpers here and the jockey booking suggests he is one to note.
Son of Gold Well who fetched £80,000 last year and is a half-brother to the top-class Cue Card. Took the eye with his finishing effort last time when fourth to a better fancied stable companion and the one to beat here.

Has been a bit too keen on both starts but should find more cover in this larger field. Not far behind Hugos Other Horse on Boxing Day, but he needs to settle better to have any chance of reversing those placings.

Half-brother to smart chaser Mister Malarkey and five-time winner Desert Queen. Sire was a top-class miler so he may have more speed than his relatives and he is one to note in the market with his stable in good form.

Dam stayed well and was a useful enough hurdler/chaser, and this one looked to need more of a trip and time after his eighth of nine on debut last month.
Very much bred to need time and a greater test of stamina than he's going to get in bumpers. Looked inexperienced on his debut and one for the much longer term.

€40,000 son of Presenting and half-brother to a winning staying chaser. Easy to see why they have aimed him at a bumper over this trip on debut and yard 3-11 in similar races this term.
€14,000 purchase by Gold Well out of a winning point-to-pointer. No winners amongst the dams five previous foals and he looks highly tried on debut.

Bought for £125,000 after recording a good time to land his sole point-to-point. Sent off favourite at Sandown for debut three months ago but found one too good. That form has worked out poorly, but jockey booking and stable form are positives.

Thunderstruck (13/8), Hugos Other Horse (9/4), Corrany (11/2), Eau Top (10/1), Jeremiah James (14/1), Saint Jude (20/1), Lyrical King (20/1), Heavey (33/1), Silver Nickel (40/1), Calypso Jack (50/1), Honey Boo (50/1), Mr Woolley (66/1), Nighthawker (150/1), Downe Milking Lane (200/1)

Verdict

Plenty of yards with good records in bumpers are represented here and the market should certainly be informative in relation to the likes of Saint Jude, Lyrical King, Heavey, Eau Top and Corranry. Thunderstruck's debut form has been undermined since but his yard are going well and there was a lot to like about a point-to-point win which suggests he has speed. HUGOS OTHER HORSE has huge shoes to fill being a half-brother to Cue Card, but he made a good start at Wincanton when staying on well and it will be no surprise if he has learned enough since.
  1. Hugos Other Horse
  2. Thunderstruck
  3. Saint Jude
