Won a 2m4f maiden hurdle at Ayr (heavy) 13-months ago. Pulled up on chase debut and well held here in cheekpieces last time. Drops in grade and definitely not one to write off yet.
2m4f (heavy) winner here in December, when 7lb lower, and followed up over this trip at Kelso (good) after a 2lb rise. Another decent effort in defeat back at 2m5½f last time, and makes the short-list.
Has so far been significantly better over hurdles than in this discipline, where he is 0-4. Has won from 6lb higher over the smaller obstacles, so is now lurking on a handy mark, but no hint recently at a revival.
Scored over C&D last March (good to soft), when a stone lower. Has been competitive on most runs this season, and won easily at Kelso on penultimate start, when 9lb lower. Another good run last time, but more needed after 3lb rise.
Trip and ground fine for him, but has not won since 2015, despite some competitive efforts this season. Went close under this claimer two starts ago, and should be thereabouts, albeit vulnerable.
Got up close home to win under this jockey at Wetherby (3m, good to soft) in December, breaking her chasing duck at the fifth attempt. Held from 1lb higher than today at Ayr (3m3f) last time, but can't rule her out.
Has improved with each run over fences and shapes as though this longer trip is well worth a try. Good effort at Wetherby (3m) last time, and from 1lb higher, he should be on the premises.
C&D scorer on heavy last April, when 7lb lower, but was competitive from this mark at Perth (3m6½f, soft) next time. Step back in the right direction last time, after a dip in form, but faster ground has to be a concern.
Reeled off a Hexham five-timer in 2017, but has not won since and has failed to complete on his last three starts. Certainly on a handy mark if he gets his jumping sorted out, but carries risks.
Doesn't look the force he was three years ago, but produced a more encouraging effort when 9L second at Market Rasen last time. Same mark today, so a bit more needed.
Forecasts
Achill Road Boy (3/1), Le Drapeau (7/2), Conas Taoi (9/2), Calivigny (15/2), Caventara (11/1), Present Flight (12/1), Pretty Miss Mahler (14/1), Aengus (18/1), Onderun (20/1), Hattons Hill (33/1)
An interesting race, with Conas Taoi heading back in the right direction, Hattons Hill on a decent mark if he can jump round, Present Flight a contender who keeps finding one or two too good, Caventara dropped in grade and Le Drapeau a potential contended now upped in trip. Achill Road Boy adds to the competitive natre of the race, in which the consistent CALIVIGNY is just preferred, as he is proven on good ground and stays well.
- Calivigny
- Le Drapeau
- Present Flight
