Has always looked a chasing type but still managed to reach an above-average level over hurdles. Ridden with more restraint than usual on chasing bow and no surprise to see more use made of him here with that experience in the bank.

Highly regarded individual who showed the benefit of a wind operation when scoring at Leicester. The value of the form is debatable given the runner-up's record and errors, so a 9lb rise makes this a more serious test.

£150,000 purchase who made good progress over hurdles. Has all the attributes to develop into a good chaser but mistakes have proved costly so far.

Had the race presented to him last time but the handicapper has taken a realistic view. Probably has more to offer at this trip and judged on his hurdling form.

Consistent so far and very well treated in comparison to his rating over timber. Tailed off when last seen over fences and softer ground would have helped.

Chasing debutant has only had two runs since November 2016. Stable 2-2 in this contest so not entirely dismissed.

Winning point-to-pointer back in 2015 from a good family the stable know well. Has clearly had issues given the lack of action but must possess some ability for connections to have persevered this long.

Forecasts

Captain Cattistock (13/8), Sky Pirate (7/2), Molineaux (5/1), Ice Cool Champs (5/1), Another Stowaway (10/1), Board Of Trade (16/1), Wee Saxon (25/1)

Verdict

SKY PIRATE was unlucky to bump into a horse now rated 13lb higher at Carlisle before capsizing when going well at Cheltenham. Obviously he needs to cut out the mistakes, but he looks feasibly treated given the rise in the weights for Another Stowaway and Molineaux. Captain Cattistock is an imposing sort who will not be long in opening his account over fences, but he looks less favourably weighted than the selection and easier opportunities surely await.
  1. Sky Pirate
  2. Molineaux
  3. Another Stowaway
