Made all at prohibitive odds when winning back-to-back 6f novice contests on Polytrack in early 2018; has continued in reasonably consistent form in handicap company since, albeit appearing to be a shade too high in the weights.

Has thrived over 5f at Gosforth Park in recent times, improving at a rate of knots; difficult to knock his close-up fourth to Encore D'Or in an AW Championships FTQ latest; fine over 6f and goes well for Kieran O'Neill.

Lightly-raced on the AW and was keeping on (nearest at the finish) when beaten 1¼L by Outrage over 5f here last month; 4lb better off at the weights with that re-opposing rival tonight; should relish this extra furlong.

3lb higher than when winning at Chelmsford (5f) in December - Class 4; reasonably effective on Fibresand since and should cope okay with the demands of this extra furlong; others more appealing.

Versatile in terms of trip (5f-6f) and has plenty of solid Newcastle form in the book (beat Athollblair Boy by a head over C&D almost exactly 12 months ago - on similar terms); has blown hot and cold recently.

Equiano Springs (4/1), Equitation (4/1), Athollblair Boy (11/2), Outrage (11/2), Moonraker (6/1), Chookie Dunedin (10/1), Bengali Boys (10/1), Visionary (12/1), Danzan (12/1), Oriental Lilly (14/1)

Verdict

The highlight of the evening with some good quality sprinters set to face the starter. Outrage had won three on the bounce at Newcastle (all over 5f) prior to tasting defeat in an AW Championships Fast-Track Qualifier last month. However, that probably just about represented a career best effort and he's still firmly on the upgrade at the age of seven. However, this step up in trip might just find him out and allow the lightly-raced EQUITATION to reverse the placings (1¼L) on 4lb better terms from their clash here on January 8th. Others to consider include Moonraker, the now well-weighted Bengali Boy and the three-time 7f course winner Equiano Springs.
  1. Equitation
  2. Outrage
  3. Moonraker
