Showed there is plenty of life in him when winning on comeback prior to finding the Veterans final at Sandown too tough. Back in his grade and can't be easily dismissed.
Creditable fourth on chase debut at Aintree in race that has worked out well. Exeter run since can be forgiven as was hampered and trip too short but more to come in this sphere and a contender.
Promising hurdler last season and although he hasn't hit those heights this term since going chasing, the handicapper has now given him a chance though this longer trip is a concern.
Smart handicapper in the past but has shown nothing so far this term and although dropped in class now, isn't one for maximum faith.
Has long been held in some regard but yet to show his true worth over the larger obstacles, running out here then pulled up after a mistake at Sandown. Almost certainly capable of better and one for the short list.
Won over hurdles in April at Hereford but needs to sharpen up his jumping over fences and Kelso run last time was disappointing.
Lightly raced these days and a long time since this veteran showed enough to be of interest here.
Handicap second at Wincanton last time probably a more accurate refection of his current chasing ability and it leaves him with bit to find against these rivals.
Came back from long absence with a good third behind progressive type at Ayr last month. Claims if this return doesn't come too soon.
Plenty of course form here in the past but two efforts in the autumn raise the question of how much ability remains for this veteran.
The sort to benefit for the application of first time cheek pieces but has lacked spark of late and others preferred.
Yet to really fire since joining present yard and not sure how much ability remains though trainer in good form at the moment which is a plus.
Useful handicapper in the past but a light of former days when seen earlier this campaign and can only be best watched for now.
Forecasts
Arthur's Gift (4/1), Groundunderrepair (6/1), Len Brennan (15/2), Dr Des (8/1), Blakemount (9/1), Minella Daddy (9/1), Very First Time (10/1), Ash Park (10/1), Coningsby (11/1), Cultram Abbey (20/1), Newtown Lad (22/1), Morning Royalty (80/1), Samstown (100/1)
CONINGSBY comes with a warning having run out on chase debut at this venue but the suspicion is there is more to come in this sphere and he gets a narrow vote. Arthur's Gift, another with hsi best days over fences surely ahead of him, can chase the selection home while Ash Park is a contender if coming on from promising comeback.
- Coningsby
- Arthur's Gift
- Ash Park
