Maiden hurdle winner over 2m here back in December 2015 after arriving from France. Stop-start career since and winless in six more runs. Back from nine months off to go chasing. Gets Ruby Walsh for company, a positive surely.

Unimpressive in three-race bumper/hurdles career so far, goes chasing have left Paul Nolan for this yard. Probably best watched for now.

Fairly useful novice over timber last season. Fell on chase bow at Punchestown in November and further improvement needed after two so-so outings since. This is perhaps an easier task.

4/1
Losing run stretches back to 2016 but has been in good form recently, including fair third behind Westerner Point over 2m3½f (soft to heavy) last month. Just 1-20 in career and liable to settle for a place.

10/1
Smart bumper performer and showed aptitude for jumping hurdles last season in the hands of Willie Mullins. Change of scenery over summer and well held in Naas Beginners' Chase (2m3f, yielding) last month on bow for these connections. More to come.

Failed to complete in pair of point-to-points recently after joining this yard following a long layoff. Hurdles wins (four) came in modest company and looks unlikely winner here.

Went down by the minimum margin in last year's Pertemps Final at Cheltenham. Needs to improve on form of Plumpton debut over fences early in the month to figure, but likely can do better in time.

Nothing of note in a number of chasing starts including three in December. Plenty to prove in this contest based on what we've seen to date.

Won a weak maiden hurdle here early last year, but didn't progress afterwards. Still in the mix when falling three over here on third chase start on New Year's Day over 2m5f (good). Work to do just the same.

Real Steel30
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-12| J: Paul Townend| T: W P Mullins| BF
6/4
140-rated hurdler, was still right in the mix when coming to grief late on at Leopardstown last month on chase bow. Jumping has always been a questionable trait. Second runner for Willie Mullins in this field.

Forecasts

Real Steel (6/4), Burgas (4/1), Allblak Des Places (11/2), Glenloe (6/1), Beyond The Law (8/1), Carter Mckay (10/1), Kagney (33/1), Baile Liam (100/1), Generous Pet (100/1), Maeve's Choice (100/1)

Verdict

Real Steel was running a big race over Christmas on his chasing bow before crashing out and, while his claims in this line-up are there to be seen, the jumping does remain a cause for concern and makes the price look short. Any money coming for stablemate Allblak Des Places would be notable, especially with Ruby Walsh on board. Glenloe should have more to offer after only one start in this sphere but so too might CARTER MCKAY. He should have learned from the introduction at Naas and is fancied to build on it now.
  1. Carter Mckay
  2. Real Steel
  3. Allblak Des Places
