Winner of a solitary AW race over 6f (Wolverhampton) in a slightly worse grade than this getting a perfect trip (first-time cheekpieces). Events have failed to fall into place the same way since despite some creditable runs; well beaten last time.

Yard have been struggling for a while (green shoots of recovery of late) with this one providing some hope with last time out second over 6f on Tapeta. Needed to wait for a run last time; very interesting off this much reduced mark; hard to ignore.

Trainer took this last year and this dual C&D winner goes well for this rider. Slipped below his last winning mark (penultimate start) and duly obliged over 6f at Lingfield; run over same C&D best ignored (hampered late on); respected off this mark.

Fair handicapper when with Harry Dunlop but did have to fall to a career-low mark to score his sole handicap victory at Chepstow (6f, good). Struggled to repeat that form and went with little dynamism on his first start for this yard last month.

Only win came in a Fibresand novice (favourite ran poorly) over 5f and he's shaped poorly in all his starts since; mainly at Southwell. Fared inadequately again at Newcastle (5f) on his latest start and now another new headgear combination now tried.

Has gradually found his feet with this yard culminating with resuming winning ways last time in a Kempton 0-55 6f contest (ridden closer to pace than usual). Up 3lb for that win he looks capable of holding his own in this stronger company.

Gave notice that he would be of interest over 7f here before looking unlucky not to win over 6f at Lingfield when last seen (held up, little room, finished full of running). He would have gone very close there; genuine contender if all falls right.

Very unexposed at sprint trips and scored cosily over C&D returning from wind surgery on handicap debut. Took a small rise for that victory in his stride when taking the runner-up slot at Kempton (6f) behind Holdenhurst (can reverse that form).

For the most part has run poorly in handicaps since scoring in 6f novice on Tapeta back in July. Finally took advantage of a tumbling handicap mark last time under a positive ride back at the scene of her C&D win; needs to be in same form.

Lightly-raced sort who doesn't have much in the way of solid form and was handed a testing handicap mark initially. Now dropped 7lb from that opening perch but has had another break and could need the run against some race fit types.

Still a maiden with the majority of her form being poor and has to operate from 1lb out of the handicap here. Made little impression back from an 8 week break last time with blinkers (retained) tried again; makes very limited appeal.

Verdict

Competitive material for the grade with a few that have been knocking on the door of late. Always Amazing would be amongst that cluster from a yard (Derek Shaw) that looks on the way back after a barren spell he should go well. Holdenhurst met Distant Applause last time and it could well be close between that pair again with the latter now 1lb better off at the weights and still looking on a good mark. Catheadans Fury needs a strong pace to be seen at her best and she may get that here although that will also suit AT YOUR SERVICE. He looked rather unfortunate last time not finding any running room late on at Lingfield and he’s taken to go one better here granted a clear shot in the finish.
