25/1
C&D winner who has offered little of late even when dropped in grade to claiming company. Finished last of five over 1m last time and now 10lb lower than when he won here in November 2017; well handicapped but unsafe.

Took advantage of a career-low mark to score over 1m here last time in a first-time visor which appeared to perk him up. Saw the trip out well and won't be disadvantaged by a switch back to 7f (three wins at the trip); coped with this mark before.

Glenn Cocot21
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-1| J: Callum Rodriguez| T: S C Williams| OR:  79| CD
3/1
Recent C&D winner who was a good third to Scofflaw last time out when attempting to follow-up that win. Still a maiden on turf his strike-rate/form on the AW reads much better (3-7); 4lb better off with Scofflaw; should be close between those two.

Los Camachos45
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-1| J: Gina Mangan(7)| T: P D Evans| OR:  79
9/1
Second runner in the race for the yard (Scofflaw looks the first choice) who has recently been gelded. Returned to form in a 7f Wolverhampton claimer in December but has yet to win in handicaps (0-10); others make more appeal.

10/1
Five course successes to his name (two C&D) but for all that he's not the most reliable/straightforward. On a going day when last victorious here in November assisted by a much-reduced mark; finding life tough again of late but can pop up anytime.

Hammer Gunv8
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-13| J: P Mathers| T: D Shaw| OR:  77| C| D
5/1
Course winner over 1m (unplaced on all other 10 runs here) who is generally better on the Fibresand. Working his way back to form of late (as is his yard) with some laudable efforts; should run his race but really needs a return to Southwell.

Highly Sprung22
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-13| J: D C Costello| T: J L Eyre| OR:  77
50/1
Offered little back from a break last time on the Tapeta at Newcastle over 6f taking his AW record to 0-9 (has been placed). Still on a mark above his two Pontefract turf wins last summer over 6f; makes limited appeal in this.

Age: 9|  Weight: 8-11| J: Liam Jones| T: M Appleby| OR:  75| C
33/1
No great record fresh and returns from a fair layoff now having won three races (all over 6f) at the start of 2018. One of those early wins last year came here this mark looks a stiff one now (0-8 beyond 6f); best watched on his return to action.

Age: 6|  Weight: 8-9| J: R Havlin| T: D K Ivory| OR:  73| BF| C
5/1
Well backed over C&D (went off 11-8) last time in a 0-75 handicap this step up in grade looks far from what he needs despite a falling mark. Has on one hand looked a little unfortunate of late but on the other has failed to finish off his races.

Red Cymbalp8
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-8| J: M Dwyer| T: D C Griffiths| OR:  72| C
25/1
Shaped well on his first start for this yard but has so far failed to build on that potential with two below-par efforts. Could be forgiven one (surface may not have suited) but not last time out; needs to show more before he can be supported.

Evening Attire19
Age: 8|  Weight: 8-7| J: Hollie Doyle| T: W Stone| OR:  71| D
10/1
Two years since his last win he shaped better than the distance he was beaten last time under a change of tactics (held-up this time). He can't be written off but should take the opportunity of running in a lower grade now he's dropped to this mark.

Forecasts

Glenn Coco (3/1), Scofflaw (3/1), Kadrizzi (5/1), Hammer Gun (5/1), Los Camachos (9/1), Gentlemen (10/1), Evening Attire (10/1), Steel Train (25/1), Red Cymbal (25/1), It Must Be Faith (33/1), Highly Sprung (50/1)

Verdict

SCOFFLAW should be able to defy a 4lb rise in the weights and confirm his recent form with Glenn Coco over C&D and improve his 2-4 record on the AW although the second will remain a threat. Gentleman isn’t the most reliable of sorts but this five time course winner can never be neglected at this venue with Evening Attire not left out of this despite a long losing run and being able to run in a lesser grade. Hammer Gun with his stable coming back to form may be able to run into a place but what he really needs is a return to his beloved Southwell where he would be well fancied.
  1. Scofflaw
  2. Glenn Coco
  3. Hammer Gun
