4-19 on the AW; has twice finished runner-up over 5f at Wolverhampton this winter, including in a Class 2 handicap behind Doctor Sardonicus latest; 1L runner-up to Rich Again on his last visit to Newcastle (January 2017).
13-time AW winner who generally likes to come with a withering late run from off the pace; no joy in a Class 3 here latest (well beaten by Outrage) but eased a couple of pounds; beat Fendale (on similar terms) by a head over C&D on Good Friday.
Beaten a head by today's rival Dynamo Walt on his most recent Newcastle start (Good Friday); relatively solid on turf since at the likes of York (5f) and Ripon (6f); respected off a short break (102-days).
Very lightly-raced for his age, returning from a year off to gamely run down Nick Vedder over 6f (Class 3) here in November; beaten by that rival since yet remains of some interest in handicapping terms; a drop back to 5f is the obvious concern.
Bought for 26,000gns in October 2017 and despite taking time to return to the track won on each of his first two outings for current connections (over 5f on turf); 0-3 on the AW (has some excuses); first Newcastle start.
On a very long losing run having not tasted success since June 2016. However, is attractively weighted and a return to Newcastle should suit; strong contender on his 2016 Gosforth Park Cup second to Orion's Bow (when rated 97); pacy.
Boasts a 33% AW strike-rate and like so many of this trainers stock has done well on this Tapeta surface; never a threat in finishing fifth of ten to Outrage over C&D latest (14/1); possibly high enough in the weights at present.
Returned from a couple of years off the track over C&D in October 2018 (formerly with Richard Fahey) and has predictably taken time to recapture some kind of form; better effort latest (in a Class 5) but this looks far more competitive.
Forecasts
Royal Prospect (9/4), Primo's Comet (10/3), Fendale (5/1), Foxy Forever (5/1), Bowson Fred (9/1), Saaheq (12/1), Jan Van Hoof (22/1), Dynamo Walt (33/1)
An interesting 5f sprint with a strong back-catalogue of C&D form for interrogation. Dynamo Walt fought off Fendale when winning here on Good Friday and there's precious little between that pair at today's broadly similar weights. Royal Prospect is lightly-raced and open to further improvement (from a fair handicap mark) with the booking of Paul Mulrennan catching the eye, although he could be found wanting over this 5f trip. Therefore, we'll opt to keep things simple and chance the front-runner BOWSON FRED. He hasn't won in ages but is extremely well handicapped on a couple of pieces of more distant C&D form (June 2016 & Nov 2017) and is fancied to make all.
- Bowson Fred
- Foxy Forever
- Fendale
