On a frustrating run of second placings, latterly over 1m4f at Wolverhampton. Drop in trip not a problem, but 2lb rise in the weights looks harsh. First-time cheekpieces may help.

Kempton winner in November, but has had to settle for the runner-up spot in his last three races. Handicap mark continues to climb and suspicion he is better over 1m.

Failed to get his head in front last year, but the plus side to that is a current mark 6lb lower than for his last success over C&D 13 months ago. Obvious chance if returning to form after a break.

Only three runs when trained by Dermot Weld in Ireland and he was able to land a maiden at Sligo before finishing second in the Ulster Derby at Down Royal. First start for current trainer and makes his AW debut.

First run for this trainer after leaving Dominic Ffrench Davis's yard when scoring in good style over C&D a fortnight ago. Up a hefty 9lb, but cannot be ruled out under his top-class jockey.

Verdict

A cracking contest in which the consistent Maybe Today and Family Fortunes will be aiming to end a frustrating run of seconditis. Both have fair claims along with recent C&D scorer Forbidden Planet and the leniently-weighted Emenem, but the really interesting one is SHEBERGHAN, who makes his debut for a respected stable and could be much better than his current mark. His ability to handle the AW is taken on trust.
