Won a handicap chase off this mark at Market Rasen over 3m last year. Not quite at that level in three starts this time around though and may find this trip on the sharp side.

Has been getting better with every start over fences and made light work of seven rivals at Catterick last time out. 8lb rise looks perfectly fair for that and expected to be hard to beat in follow up bid.

Pulled up on chase debut in heavy ground at Ayr but much better when winning a three-runner contest at Doncaster in December on good. Finished a long way behind Manwell last time at Catterick though and likely to struggle to reverse the form.

Very impressive on return from a lengthy absence at Bangor in November and may have bounced when last seen at Musselburgh. No doubt he's better than that and he's still feasibly handicapped.

Astracad15

6/1
Losing run goes all the way back to 2016 but produced a much better effort on his seasonal return at Leicester when only beaten 6L in to second. Well-handicapped but not the force of old and first time out is usually the time to catch him.

Forecasts

Manwell (5/4), Agamemmon (7/2), Thyne For Gold (11/2), Astracad (6/1), Lord County (8/1)

Verdict

An 8lb rise for MANWELL looks manageable for his impressive win at Catterick when last seen and he's expected to be hard to beat if he arrives in the same form. Thyne For Gold had excuses last time and is worth giving another chance to while Lord County finished a long way behind the selection last time and while he wil struggle to reverse that form, he's not without each-way claims.
  1. Manwell
  2. Thyne For Gold
  3. Lord County
