Off for a long time before an encouraging comeback at Lingfield late last month, and is likely to have derived plenty of benefit from that outing. If so, this C&D winner is potentially well treated.
Beaten under 1L when runner-up on two of last three starts, the latest over C&D. Normally sports cheekpieces, but if first-time blinkers can eke any more out of him, he will go very close again.
Both wins over 5f, most recently here in October, but ran well enough when third over 6f at Lingfield last time, and often shapes as if this trip should suit better. One to bear in mind.
Below form since finishing third of 6 at Newmarket in August, and while the handicapper is giving her every chance, she didn't show any more when tried in blinkers at Southwell on her most recent start.
Was on a roll in the summer with three wins at Catterick and Chelmsford all at 6f. Hasn't been quite at his best since, but had excuses last time, and quickly back to last winning mark.
Now 5lb lower than when a close fourth over C&D in November, so handicapped to go close, although supporters must forgive a trio of underwhelming efforts since.
Suited by the strong pace when placed off 3lb higher over C&D in November, and apprentice ridden when below best at Southwell twice since. Should bounce back if getting race run to suit.
In reasonable heart right now, and not discredited when fourth of 10 to Inaam over 7f here nine days ago. Return to 6f should be in his favour, and likely to be in the mix again.
Won a lesser 5f handicap here in November, but has had his limitations exposed in similar races here twice since. Needs a visor to bring about improvement.
Best recent effort when beaten 1L into fifth over C&D on penultimate start, and didn't get the run of things over 7f last time, but others still look more solid.
Forecasts
Kupa River (4/1), Miracle Garden (9/2), A Sure Welcome (7/1), Hollander (7/1), Sir Ottoman (7/1), Letmestopyouthere (8/1), Stoneyford Lane (8/1), Our Man In Havana (12/1), Dotted Swiss (14/1), Indian Pursuit (14/1)
A SURE WELCOME is in fine form, and the application of blinkers instead of his usual cheekpieces could make all the difference after a couple of narrow defeats. Hollander hasn't won at this trip, but shapes like he will when getting the breaks, and looks a threat, with the well-treated Miracle Garden hard to rule out on his second start back from a lengthy absence.
- A Sure Welcome
- Hollander
- Miracle Garden
