Showed that he had ability when landing a big field novice when trained in Ireland but didn't really spark after that. Two runs for this yard have left more questions than answers (travelled well last time; stopped quickly); tongue-tie goes on now.

10/11
Made all when gifted an easy lead at the start of a Haydock handicap recently despite looking to be on a stiff mark for his handicap debut. The excellent form of the yard may have had a part to play; escapes a penalty here and will be hard to beat.

Handicapper appeared to make him want to pay for his Hereford success in November raising him 9lb for a less than 2L win. Unsurprisingly well beaten last time off his new mark with the form his win not working out; still faces difficult task.

Lightly-raced maiden over hurdles who will be making his 2nd handicap start; shaped like he needed his first run in this sphere. Well found in the market which suggests he doesn't lack ability but faded quickly last time; mark still challenging.

Went backwards from promising debuts in bumpers and over hurdles on his 2nd start in both disciplines although he's subsequently shown he's capable of better over hurdles. Given a stiff task last time and now makes his handicap debut; place chance.

Struggled to win for a long time until a switch to the Keith Dalgleish yard saw him successful over hurdles and on the AW. Hasn't run at all well for this yard as yet and looks an awkward sort; yard have a better candidate in Friday Night Light.

Mead Vale25

Showed improved form to win on his 2nd handicap start dropped markedly in trip from his initial attempt in this sphere. Showed a good attitude on that occasion aided by the addition of a capable 10lb claimer (rides again here); ran well last time.

Bellamy's Grey31
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: M G Nolan| T: C J Gray| OR:  107

Looks as though he has the ability to be competitive in handicaps having qualified for a mark over an inadequate 2m. Will have come on for his handicap debut at Exeter (2m7f, soft) off a 3lb higher mark; drop to this trip may not be ideal.

Winner of a handicap chase off this mark back in October 2016 he's only been seen on four occasions since (all over fences). Returns from a lengthy break over hurdles with plenty to prove and not hard to look elsewhere.

Her 2nd in Wincanton novice looked as though it would make her (if repeated) an interesting candidate for a low-grade handicap hurdles. However, she's not really built on that run as yet and fell when starting to struggle off this mark last time.

Caswell Bay31
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-6| J: Adam Wedge| T: Evan Williams| OR:  113
9/2
Interesting sort who has some smart relations (Zamdy Man and Clyne amongst them); shaped well in juvenile contests prior to Xmas. Last effort (2nd to the smart Torpillo) reads really well; goes handicapping with a healthy weight-for-age allowance.

Mountain Of Mourneb43
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: James Best| T: Miss L Blackford| OR:  92| CD
22/1
Essentially a lazy and awkward sort who hasn't won since November 2015 and despite a declining handicap mark is of little interest. Headgear back on today but is 2lb out of the handicap; would be a surprise winner.

Forecasts

Cloudy Glen (10/11), Caswell Bay (9/2), Friday Night Light (8/1), Carrigmoorna Matt (9/1), Landofsmiles (9/1), William B (10/1), High Noon (12/1), Mead Vale (14/1), Samson's Reach (14/1), Mountain Of Mourne (22/1), Chloe's Court (33/1), Bellamy's Grey (50/1), Smoking Jacket (66/1), Picture Painter (66/1)

Verdict

CLOUDY GLEN may well have been given a soft lead when winning at Haydock but he still won in good style and goes unpenalised here, in fact rider Hugh Nugent can claim 1lb more of his allowance here than he did last time out. If this doesn’t come too soon he should be able to dominate this field and build on Venetia Williams winning run. Caswell Bay has already shown some good form over hurdles although he has limited experience but the generous weight-for-age allowance will make him a threat. Mead Vale has put together two solid runs while he eased in grade and class Friday Night Light also enters the equation.
  1. Cloudy Glen
  2. Caswell Bay
  3. Friday Night Light
