Former point-to-point winner who showed the benefit from hios rules debut to win over 2m6f at Newcastle last time out. Carries a 6lb penalty for that success but going the right way and has to merit a second look in the betting.
Swapped hands for £82,000 at the Doncaster sales in May after stellar performances in winning three point-to-points on the bounce. Been off for a while but is in the right hands. Suited by the trip too. Shortlisted.

Modest former pointer that has shown very little in three previous starts under rules. Others more convincing here.

Winner of a point-to-point in April and may have been in need of the run on debut under rules in November. Big step forward still required though.

Bred to have an impact over jumps and has already won a point-to-point. Rules form has been nothing special so far; hard to recommend as one to follow on the route to riches at this moment in time.

Well beaten in all three starts so far (which have been well spread out over the last three years). Anything better than his previous start will be a bonus - the gelding finished last of 18 at Lingfield in November.

40/1
Went for £85,000 as a three-year-old but three starts so far have been inconclusive as to his ability as a hurdler. Needs to start improving quickly; the step up in trip might help but likely he's best watched just now.

11/4
Yard starting to wind things up a bit just now and have been rewarded with a few well placed winners. This fellow is on the upgrade too and looks ready fro a crack over this distance. Shortlisted.
No better than an average handicapper on the Flat and has a poor record since switching codes. Others readily preferred.

Only hinted at ability so far and has plenty to find if he's going to reverse Hereford form with Geordie B on a literal reading of their encounter last month; stiff test ahead.
Winner of a couple of point-to-points, this 54,000 purchase (as a 3YO) looks an interesting recruit for his small yard. May need the experience but worthy of a place in the notebook as one to follow as he gains experience.

Yet to win over hurdles from 7 previous starts but did go close at Warwick on his penultimate outing. Reverted to type last time though and now has a bit to prove. Steps up in trip and jockey booking an obvious plus, so still worth a betting check.

Carries useful form over from his point-to-point days and is a nicely-bred individual. Might just need this experience of hurdles though.
14

Previous two starts have been very poor and the gelding is very difficult to recommend on the evidence of those well-beaten runs.

Oldtown Pollyt1240
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-5| J: Brendan Powell| T: B G Powell
66/1
Point-to-point winner in Ireland but not yet shone over hurdles and looks one to be wary of just now. First time fitting of a tongue tie might help bring improvement but may still not be enough.

Forecasts

Samburu Shujaa (9/4), Chinensis (9/4), Geordie B (11/4), Diger Daudaie (17/2), Duarigle (12/1), Colonel Keating (16/1), King Of The Sharks (20/1), Speedy Buck (25/1), El Hageb Rose (40/1), Oldtown Polly (66/1), Hugo's Reflection (66/1), Due South (100/1), Clondaw Robin (100/1), Noisy Neighbour (100/1), Go George Go (100/1)

Verdict

Venetia Williams has her string in good order just now and the in-form yard may be worth siding with again as GEORDIE B takes the next step froward in his development. The step up in trip can be expected to suit and the gelding is a worthy candidate in a race that lacks a lot of strength in depth. Chinensis looks an interesting recruit for an equally highly respected yard, while Diger Daudaie is not out of this despite picking up a 6lb penalty for winning last time out. Support in the betting for Samburu Shujaa could also be rewarding to follow if the odds are attractive enough for a place bet.
  1. Geordie B
  2. Chinensis
  3. Diger Daudaie
