Form figures have the look of an unwanted Scrabble rack with only one completion in his last six starts; pulled up in his last three. Went with a lot more brio and verve than of late last time for some way; drops in grade here, 2nd run for new yard.

Boston Sprayp,t37
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-8| J: J J Slevin| T: J P O'Brien| OR:  116
9/1
Interesting runner for a burgeoning Irish yard who are 1-25 in GB having although his switch to fences hasn't been a smooth one. Yet to complete over larger obstacles (PFPF so far) and now makes his handicap debut with a little to prove.

Showed some fair form over hurdles despite not winning and looked to have an aptitude for chasing last time out at Ffos Las. May well improve for that run and on breeding looks the sort to enjoy this trip although not that well handicapped.

Usually comes from well off the pace in his fencing exploits and that can make life difficult in a winning sense, often getting going far too late. Needs a scenario where the pace collapses although the yard are in good form at the moment.

Fly Rory Flyb194
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-4| J: Lucy Alexander| T: N W Alexander| OR:  112
20/1
Failed to convince over fences when trained in Ireland and it's been much the same story in three runs over the larger obstacles for this stable. Has shown little so far although the blinkers return that were worn for his best Irish chase run.
6
Horse silk
Orioninvernessp,t12
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-1| J: S Mulqueen(3)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  109| C
5/1
One of the more experienced in the field over fences (3-15) and a course winner over 2m4f off a much lower mark though. In decent form since returning from a break in September (won on comeback) but not that well treated here off this mark.

Whiskey Chaserp243

14/1
Made a winning return to action this time last year and now back down to that mark after struggling a little to make his mark off higher. Now returns from another break (may go well fresh) and over a trip that is likely to suit.

Blakerigg40
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: B S Hughes| T: N G Richards| OR:  107
15/8
Pulled up on his two starts before having win surgery and looked to have benefitted from that operation when taking an Ayr handicap over 2m4f. Looks the type to relish this sort of trip and jumps soundly enough to overcome a 9lb higher mark.

Horse silk
The Orange Roguet243
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-9| J: Grant Cockburn(3)| T: N W Alexander| OR:  103| CDWS
50/1
C&D winner who scored back-to-back wins in early 2017 but has been sparingly raced since then. Failed to complete on his last four starts (PPFU) but returns having slipped below his last winning mark having had a wind op.

Forecasts

Blakerigg (15/8), Orioninverness (5/1), Overworkdunderpaid (5/1), Newtown Lad (11/2), Boston Spray (9/1), Captain Mowbray (12/1), Whiskey Chaser (14/1), Fly Rory Fly (20/1), The Orange Rogue (50/1)

Verdict

The wind surgery that BLAKERIGG underwent appears to have given him a new lease of like as he looked a different horse at Ayr and he’s taken to defy a 9lb rise in the weights with this trip looking to suit. Orioninverness has been in good form of late but doesn’t look particularly well treated off his current mark and neither does Overworkdunderpaid although that one has only had one chasing experience and could yet improve. Whiskey Chaser has often gone well fresh and he returns from a break while it will be interesting to see what the market makes of Newtown Lad. Captain Mowbray is another to throw in the mix from an in-form stable although he will need things to fall just right for him.
  1. Blakerigg
  2. Overworkdunderpaid
  3. Captain Mowbray
