Twice a winner over hurdles earlier in the year, and looked very much in need of the run when fading out of things at Carlisle on his comeback last month. Upped in trip here, which asks a new question, but has improvement to come.
C&D winner here in October, winning by a big margin and handicapper took immediate action. Stuck to the task at Aintree latest and return to this track can only be a plus. Needs rain to stay away.
Veteran that pops up now and again, winner of the Norfolk National in May when last seen and now starts this season on a high-looking mark. May need a run or two to put her straight and others preferred.
Wins have come in small fields so far and jumping has often let him down, as was the case again at Wetherby last time. Handicapper starting to offer a helping hand but still a bit to prove at present.
Lengthy sort that has plenty of scope for fences but often makes mistakes, as was the case again last time when well beaten at Stratford. Needs to cut the errors out to hold best chance.
Not the most consistent, as demonstrated by last couple of efforts (close second at Hereford, then a tailed-off favourite at Sedgefield) but capable on a going day. May not want much more rain though, and on balance, others preferred.
Winner over hurdles in February (heavy ground) but not so good switched to fences next start, jumping going to pieces. Not seen since April, has had a wind operation and tries fences again, but plenty of risk attached.
Had looked very much on the downgrade until a slightly better effort at Bangor last time, although handicapper unimpressed and drops him another 5lb. Mark is tempting but in truth, not much else is.
Worry would be that this grade might find him out (tends to operate at a lower level) but has some decent efforts over C&D to his name and any further rain a plus. Chance if fit after his summer break, with yard amongst the winners.
Forecasts
Fleminport (11/4), Wandrin Star (7/2), Bordeaux Bill (4/1), One Forty Seven (6/1), Coologue (8/1), Spirit Of Hale (14/1), Some Kinda Lama (14/1), Emerald Rose (22/1), After Aspen (25/1)
Plenty of these have some sort of question to answer and the race is best approached with a bit of caution. In the hope he's ready to go after a break, SPIRIT OF HALE probably has a few less questions than most and might prove the answer. Fleminport will come on for a recent run and might have more to offer, so rates the danger, with Wandrin Star the most likely to fill the tricast spot.
