Only two career wins came over hurdles in 2014, and while he wasn't disgraced back over fences at Punchestown last month, he posed no win threat, and his jumping was far from flawless.

Mixed form of late, but good 1½L second of 9 to Jaunty Thor (winner again since) in lady riders' handicap chase over 2m5f here last time, and not without a chance if she can repeat that effort.

Well Tomt17
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-6| J: Mr E Mahon(7)| T: Aengus King| OR:  96

Big odds on first three chase starts, but much improved having attracted support when scoring over 2m6½f at Galway last time. This is tougher after an 8lb rise, but he's open to improvement, and respected.

Well behind Well Tom at Galway and ran even worse in race won by Jaunty Thor here last time, so hard to work up much enthusiasm for this veteran's chances.

Seemed to run well when fourth at Roscommon in May, but well below that form in four starts since, and likely to be flattered by that standout effort.

Fairly useful at his peak for Mary Hallahan, but well beaten in two outings early last season, and blinkers reached for starting out for a new yard after an absence now. Market should guide.

Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: E O'Connell(7)| T: E Cawley| OR:  94

Now 6lb higher than when beating Redwood Boy at Sligo in September, and just a respectable fifth of 15 to Well Tom in similar event here last time. Opposable on balance.

Redwood Boy8
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-12| J: Rachael Blackmore| T: J J Hanlon| OR:  88

Went very close over 2m5f at Sligo in September and best effort since when fourth to Jaunty Thor here last time. Has work to do with Danali on that running, but not dismissed.

Polish Partisanp,t40
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-6| J: A W Short(3)| T: M J Smith| OR:  82

Beaten a long way when fourth at Sligo on penultimate outing, and ran poorly back over hurdles last time, so has something to prove at present.

Horse silk
Redwood Castle17
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-3| J: N T Prendergast(7)| T: J J Hanlon| OR:  79| D
33/1
Has cored between the flags, but regularly let down by his jumping under Rules, and easy to swerve as a result.

Jamesmicheal17
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: M A Enright| T: J Brassil| OR:  76
10/1
Just a modest performer at best, but generally running with credit off his lowly mark, and shaped better than the bare result when down the field behind Major Tom here last time, fading late under an aggressive ride.

Night Sir8
Age: 12|  Weight: 9-10| J: L P Dempsey| T: Ms H P Markham| OR:  72| D
10/1
Still a maiden under Rules despite veteran status, and while he ran well when third to Jaunty Thor here on his latest start, his overall record suggests he's far from certain to repeat the form.

Horse silk
Kilderry Princeb117
Age: 10|  Weight: 9-10| J: Robbie Colgan| T: A J McNamara| OR:  66| D
25/1
Struggling to make an impact despite his basement mark, and blinkers now tried after a couple of runs in cheekpieces. Hard to fancy.

Forecasts

Well Tom (5/2), Danali (4/1), Redwood Boy (5/1), Jamesmicheal (10/1), Night Sir (10/1), Select Opportunity (10/1), Thekingofconnemara (12/1), Ballyfinboy (12/1), Dawn Light Cave (14/1), Polish Partisan (20/1), Fr Humphrey (25/1), Kilderry Prince (25/1), Redwood Castle (33/1)

Verdict

WELL TOM landed a gamble on his handicap debut at Galway despite having shown just a modicum of promise on his previous starts, and he appeals as the type to progress with racing, so may be able to shrug off an 8lb rise. Danali had her latest second to Jaunty Thor franked when that one scored again recently, and she will go well with a repeat. Fr Humphrey is hard to weight up after an absence, but is worth noting in the market for his new yard.
  1. Well Tom
  2. Danali
  3. Fr Humphrey
