Placed in a couple of heavy ground bumpers last term. Makes hurdling debut under top rider at a course where yard are 3-8 in past five seasons.

Flash The Steel37
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-0| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| BF
10/3
Point-to-point winner and off the mark at the third attempt in bumpers when winning on the fibresand at Southwell earlier this year. Makes hurdling debut at a venue where stable have a good record.
Not as good as some of these in bumpers but has hurdling experience having been third at Market Rasen. Likely to require more than that in what looks a much better race.

Mr Pumblechook235
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-0| J: Adrian Heskin| T: A King
14/1
Mid-division in a couple of soft ground bumpers and as a son of Midnight Legend the better ground here may help. Stable in form and the market should be informative.
5
Horse silk
Park Philosopher262
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-0| J: C Poste| T: R Dickin
100/1
Milan gelding out of a French winning hurdler/chaser. Showed promise in point-to-points but stable are yet to get going this term.

Phoenix Way304
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-0| J: Aidan Coleman| T: H Fry
11/10
Easy winner of a Killeagh point-to-point when posting an incredible time which was the fastest of the day by several seconds. Fetched a considerable sum at the sales and the stable are showing signs of getting into top gear.

Rapper21
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-0| J: Andrew Tinkler| T: H D Daly
18/1
Has shown a bit of ability in bumpers but finds himself in what appears to be a very hot heat on his hurdling debut and easier opportunities await.

Sirobbie206
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-0| J: R Patrick(3)| T: S Thomas
100/1
Not as good as many of these in bumpers and commences hurdling career against some nice horses from bigger yards.
Bumper winner who ran well for a long way on his hurdling debut. Looks more than capable of landing a maiden hurdle but may need to set his sights lower than this.

The Vollan20
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-0| J: J J Burke| T: C E Longsdon
100/1
Scorpion gelding purchased for €30,000 as a three-year-old. Raced too keenly on bumper debut and looks the type who may need more time.

Horse silk
Timcoda34
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-0| J: G Sheehan| T: Jamie Snowden
28/1
Placed in three point-to-points and runner up in a slowly run bumper a month ago. Bred to want further than this but fit and stable in form.
Down the field here on sole bumper start and stable off to a slow start. Faces a stiff task on hurdling debut.
13
Horse silk
Oriental Cross282
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-7| J: Alan Johns| T: Tim Vaughan
28/1
Progressive mare in bumpers last season and interesting here on hurdling debut in receipt of a useful allowance. Worth a glance in the market on seasonal bow.

Forecasts

Phoenix Way (11/10), Flash The Steel (10/3), The Some Dance Kid (11/2), Mr Pumblechook (14/1), Rapper (18/1), Bang On (20/1), From The Heart (25/1), Timcoda (28/1), Oriental Cross (28/1), The Vollan (100/1), Sirobbie (100/1), Lady Chartreuse (100/1), Park Philosopher (100/1)

Verdict

Some promising types on paper line up for this with Oriental Cross, Timcoda, Rapper, Flash The Steel and Bang On all looking evenly matched on bumper form. The Some Dance Kid showed enough on his hurdling debut to be considered a future winner in waiting, but Harry Fry has found a good opportunity for £270,000 buy PHOENIX WAY to open his account. He recorded a sub six minute time at Killeagh on his way to a comfortable point-to-point victory when beating a very good field and that clearly makes him the one to beat.
  1. Phoenix Way
  2. The Some Dance Kid
  3. Flash The Steel
