Returning from a break of well over two years when a distant ninth of 11 at Haydock last month. Should strip fitter, but is best watched until showing more.
Has performed well in three starts since joining current yard from the Gordon Elliott stable. A winner over C&D last time, he is up 3lb and has to enter calculations.
First run since joining this trainer from Alan Fleming's yard when last of 14 on the AW at Newcastle. Needs this shorter trip, return to turf and lower mark to prove a potent cocktail.
Raced off 2lb higher mark when finishing in mid-division, beaten quite a long way, at Doncaster when last seen in April. Likely to need this first run following a break.
Has struggled in two races over shorter distances since being gelded during the summer. On the plus side, his handicap mark is falling and his stable is in fine form.
Has struggled to land a blow this season at around 1m4f. Step up in trip might help, as may a lower handicap rating, but he has questions to answer.
Two good placed displays at Ayr preceded a lesser effort at Haydock. The ground that day might have been too deep and he may be able to bounce back on this surface.
Not beaten far when third of eight over this trip at Ffos Las, but failed to back up that effort over 1m4f at Kempton last time. Still early days for her and cheekpieces are fitted.
First run following a lay-off when a distant eighth of nine at Hamilton in September. May do better over the extra 2f of this contest.
Successful over C&D in September, but struggled off this higher mark when returned to this course last month. Needs the ground to dry out if he is to be seen to best effect.
Returns to the Flat following a string of good efforts over hurdles earlier this year. This may be a warm-up for his winter jumping campaign, but he is worth a look in the betting.
Musselburgh winner over this distance in September, but not so good when dropped in trip at that venue last month. Best recent form is on a sound surface.
Forecasts
Icario (6/4), Cornerstone Lad (4/1), Buonarroti (5/1), Westbrook Bertie (12/1), Ice Galley (12/1), Only Orsenfoolsies (14/1), Restive (20/1), Whispering Sands (20/1), Marengo (33/1), Lopes Dancer (40/1), Gabrial's Star (66/1), Glan Y Gors (66/1)
With a positive jockey booking and his stable in fine form, it would be no surprise to see Westbrook Bertie put up a bold display, but he has a bit to prove and a more reliable option may be ICARIO, who is in good heart and boasts recent winning form over C&D. Cornerstone Lad may be the better of his stable's two runners, while Buonarroti has prospects if the ground dries out.
- Icario
- Westbrook Bertie
- Cornerstone Lad
