Age: 9|  Weight: 12-3| J: Harry Teal(3)| T: R A Teal| OR:  102
9/1
Quirky sort (often races lazily) and needs to be caught on a going day although there haven't been many of those of late. Drops in grade again but looks as though he needs more help from the handicapper and looked laboured last time.

Hide The Biscuit136
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: R Patrick| T: Tim Vaughan| OR:  97
11/4
First run for this yard having previously been trained in Ireland and is yet to win a race (0-12). Given a stiff task last time but has run creditably in this sort of grade before and one to watch in the betting; entered at Musselburgh on Wednesday.
3
Horse silk
Balkinstownt,v16
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-9| J: Philip Donovan(3)| T: R Stephens| OR:  94
11/1
Only modest over hurdles and hardly has a convincing strike-rate (1-31) but has dropped below his only winning mark with the change of rider a likely positive. Ran with credit at Ffos Las last time in a 0-100; should enjoy this trip/ground.
4
Horse silk
Welluptoscratcht180
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-6| J: Bryony Frost| T: D W P Arbuthnot| OR:  91
8/1
Bumper winner who remains a maiden over hurdles (0-10); steps up considerably in distance from his last run at Fontwell (2m3f). Has been given a chance by the handicapper (dropped to a career-low mark); top conditional on board.
5
Horse silk
Phangiob,t49
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-6| J: Stan Sheppard| T: M Sheppard| OR:  91| D
20/1
Not seen over hurdles since earlier this year (last four starts over fences, including a win at Warwick). Two quick runs back from a break (2nd one came too soon); returns having slipped below his last winning chase mark; winning headgear returns.
6
Horse silk
Damierp132
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-5| J: Hugh Nugent(3)| T: David Dennis| OR:  90
20/1
Lightly-raced sort who fell on his only start in an Irish point-to-point before being well beaten in novice/maiden hurdles. Cheekpieces now go on for the first time as he moves into handicap company up in trip off a lowly mark.
7
Horse silk
Aristocracy13
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-5| J: C Brace(10)| T: F O'Brien| OR:  90
4/1
Modest handicap hurdler these days whose last win came over a year ago on the back of a couple of sound placed efforts off a 2lb lower mark. His hurdles form of late has been creditable off similar marks; good 10lb claimer takes the ride.
8
Horse silk
Apachee Princep,t14
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-2| J: Cillin Leonard(10)| T: O Murphy| OR:  87
8/1
Very little progress has been made by this one for a change of yard who has been tried over hurdles and fences by them; best run over hurdles. Failed to build on that run over fences last time and his inconsistency is hardly bet compelling.
9
Horse silk
Backoftherockh,t30
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-6| J: Charlie Hammond| T: D A Rees| OR:  77| BF
20/1
Winning point-to-pointer who has been mainly campaigned over fences of late (couple of vaguely eye-catching runs) but was pulled up over hurdles last time. Made favourite for that run (3m2f, soft) he has questions to answer here.
10
Horse silk
Georgina Joyb1,t56
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-4| J: Tom Buckley(10)| T: N J Hawke| OR:  75
9/2
Has some reasonable form to her name and was well backed in a similar event last time on her first run back from wind surgery; faded badly in the closing stages. Dropped a further 2lb with the blinkers going on for the first time; others appeal more.
11
Horse silk
Black Jack Jaxont18
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-0| J: Edward Austin(5)| T: S Flook| OR:  66
40/1
Campaigned over fences of late and yet to complete over hurdles (pulled up on three occasions). Now makes his handicap debut over hurdles with a lot to prove from 5lb out of the handicap; makes little appeal.

Forecasts

Hide The Biscuit (11/4), Aristocracy (4/1), Georgina Joy (9/2), Welluptoscratch (8/1), Apachee Prince (8/1), Agincourt Reef (9/1), Balkinstown (11/1), Backoftherock (20/1), Damier (20/1), Phangio (20/1), Black Jack Jaxon (40/1)

Verdict

Just a low-grade and low-key start to the card with no outstanding candidate in a race that makes limited betting appeal. Balkinstown is one of the more likely types in this having run well at Ffos Las last time although his career strike-rate is rather off putting for win purposes. Welluptoscratch has to show he can cope with this trip but does have the assistance of Bryony Frost and that’s bound to attract market support. Hide The Biscuit is having his first run for the Tim Vaughan yard and is one to watch in the market after some creditable Irish efforts especially as he’s in at Musselburgh later in the week. ARISTOCRACY has run with credit of late and has a good 10lb claimer on board.
  1. Aristocracy
  2. Balkinstown
  3. Hide The Biscuit
