33% AW strike-rate (2-6) following early season wins at Lingfield (7f) and Chelmsford (1m); has found her revised mark on turf to be a fraction too high (ran okay), so the blinkers are now applied seeking an extra edge.

Showed promise in early season Class 2 6f (turf) handicaps at Newmarket, but has proved disappointing in each of his last three appearances (twice on soft); 0-3 at Kempton (6f-7f).

Just 1lb higher than when winning over 7f at Chelmsford in January (all out), but wasn't far off the principals on turf at Beverley (7f+ good to soft) latest, form boosted by Zeshov (winner since); wide draw the concern.

Made all to down a John Gosden-trained hot-pot when breaking the maiden at Wolverhampton (7f) in February, but has struggled in competitive Class 4 turf handicaps (7f-1m) since; AW return a positive.

Lightly-raced after five career starts; has shown his best form over C&D, namely when finishing a close up fourth to the re-opposing Redgrave (Class 4 handicap); first-time cheekpieces applied (accompanies a tongue-tie); much respected.

Nine-race maiden; finished off strongly when third to Insurgence over C&D in June (under David Egan); raced sparingly since, but must come into contention off the same mark if race-fit from a 117 day absence.

Quick Breath18
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: Rob Hornby| T: J G Portman| OR:  77| D
5/1
Just 1lb higher than when winning over 7f at Chelmsford in July, but has arguably taken a few backward steps on turf since (6f-7f); others are preferred.

Forecasts

Redgrave (3/1), Quick Breath (5/1), Parnassian (11/2), Dark Side Dream (8/1), La Maquina (8/1), Gentlemen (10/1), Character Witness (12/1), Mesquite (16/1), No I'm Easy (16/1), Espresso Freddo (25/1), Nezar (25/1), Michael Corleone (25/1), Galloway Hills (33/1), Bernie's Boy (50/1)

Verdict

A competitive 14-runner handicap in which the interesting horse is the returning three-year-old Character Witness. However, plenty of others hold fairly similar claims based upon more recent C&D form, so feasibly might have a race-fitness advantage tonight. Parnassian was disqualified after winning at Windsor last month, but has knocked at the door since, with his latest close-up fifth to Kamra (6f) possibly given a timely form boost by the runner-up Outrage (runs at Newcastle on Tuesday). However, the selection is the unexposed (and now cheekpieced) LA MAQUINA who finished hot on the heels (fourth) behind the re-opposing winner Redgrave over C&D 25 days ago.
  1. La Maquina
  2. Parnassian
  3. Character Witness
