12/1
Former course winner, can be temperamental and failed to impress last month on first start for this stable. Others more likely now.
2

Gold Class17
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-13| J: Graham Carson(7)| T: C Hobson| OR:  101| C
14/1
Just 1-27 over hurdles but back from 238-day absence with close second at Uttoxeter this month and has to enter calculations from only 2lb higher now.
3
Horse silk
Bowie105
Age: 11|  Weight: 11-12| J: Adam Wedge| T: N Kent| OR:  100| CD
16/1
Veteran, runner-up here on Boxing Day but form since much less convincing since. Former C&D winner back from a summer break and given a chance by the assessor.
4
Horse silk
Kiruna Peakh18
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-9| J: C Brace(10)| T: F O'Brien| OR:  98
6/1
Placed in four of her eight hurdle starts to date including third at Newton Abbot last month. Below form fifth of 11 in novice hurdle at Worcester (2m, good) 18 days ago but hood back on and capable in this field.
5
Horse silk
Marju's Questh17
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-6| J: David Noonan| T: A Wintle| OR:  94| C| D
8/1
Been mixing hurdles and fences of late and tends to run with the choke out a lot of the time. Hasn't won for over two years and others preferred again.
6
Horse silk
Uno Mas24
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-6| J: R Johnson| T: Christian Williams| OR:  95
8/1
Well beaten in all six starts so far over hurdles (three of them in Ireland). Mark is dropping rapidly and Richard Johnson keeps the faith but others preferred after poor show at Southwell recently.
7
Horse silk
Troy Dee Knee19
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-5| J: M Goldstein| T: S Lycett| OR:  93
25/1
Had run of the race at Newton Abbot (2m2½f, good) recently but could only fade to finish 28L third of six. Switches to handicaps now and looks to have plenty on his plate.
8
Horse silk
Crakehall Ladb30
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: C J Todd(7)| T: A Crook| OR:  92
16/1
Well beaten off in C&D selling hurdle last month but since run much better race in a handicap at Sedgefield under this claiming rider, not discounted back here.
9
Horse silk
Anton Dolin55
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-2| J: Lewis Stones(7)| T: M Mullineaux| OR:  90
11/1
Placed three times in the spring including over an extended 2m2f at Stratford (good-to-firm) in June and creditable second of eight in handicap hurdle over C&D (good to firm) 55 days ago. 3lb higher now but can get involved with repeat run.
10
Horse silk
West Classt1,v40
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-12| J: Ryan Winks(5)| T: P Winks| OR:  86
10/1
Respectable fourth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Bangor (2m3½f, good) last month, not finding as much as appeared likely for pressure. Tongue tie added to visor now.
11
Horse silk
Mega Mind29
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-11| J: R Patrick(3)| T: S Thomas| OR:  85| BF
14/1
Backed on handicap debut last month at Bangor, moved ominously for a while but effort quickly faded and was pulled up. Intersting to see if the money comes a second time.
12
Horse silk
Musical Stardust25
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-11| J: Harry Bannister| T: A M Hales| OR:  85
33/1
Seventh of 11 in handicap hurdle at Stratford over similar trip earlier this month. Now unplaced in eight career starts and plenty work to be done.
13
Horse silk
4/1
Just the one win from 27 starts over hurdles tell its own story (seven further placed efforts) including last time at Worcester in July over similar sort of trip.
14
Horse silk
Kublai45
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-3| J: T Scudamore| T: Alexandra Dunn| OR:  77
9/2
Last win came in 2015 and his latest efforts have shown a continuing decline. Handicapper continues to give him a chance but only a market move would make him worthy of a second look after disappointment again at Newton Abbot last month.

Forecasts

Double Court (4/1), Kublai (9/2), Kiruna Peak (6/1), Marju's Quest (8/1), Uno Mas (8/1), West Class (10/1), Anton Dolin (11/1), Baron Von Chill (12/1), Gold Class (14/1), Mega Mind (14/1), Crakehall Lad (16/1), Bowie (16/1), Troy Dee Knee (25/1), Musical Stardust (33/1)

Verdict

Not an inspiring bunch here. Kiruna Peak has been rebuilding confidence since a summer fall at Uttoxeter and could take advantage of a declining mark in a race like this, while Anton Dolin is amongst the more consistent performers in the field but does tend to find winning problematic (3-58). Kublai would have a chance if able to bounce back to form but a chance is taken with CRAKEHALL LAD, who did at least take a step in the right direction at Sedgefield last time out.
  1. Crakehall Lad
  2. Anton Dolin
  3. Kiruna Peak
