Alhebayeb colt made debut over 7½f at Ffos Las earlier this month when seventh of 13 after a slow start. Ought to progress for that run but this a tougher looking race so plenty to do.

Made a most promising start on debut when beaten by the minimum distance ay York over 7f (good to soft). Difficult to better that form in maiden company so looks the one they all have to beat.

Well bred Dubawi colt couldn't get competitive on debut when 8L 10th of 13 at Ascot over 7f. Yard's two-year-olds typically progress from first race but big improvement required.

Camacho colt outran 33/1 odds to be third on debut on the July course but couldn't build on that next on AW at Kempton when eight of 14. Likely to find this at least as tough.

Dubawi newcomer out of a 6f-7f winner including at two and Listed. Trainer has 22 per cent strike rate with two-year-olds and capable of winning with them first time out so market check essential.

120,00gns newcomer by leading first season sire No Nay Never who was an exceptional two-year-old. Unraced dam from a good family at around 1m so trip should suit. 4 of yard's five two-year-old winners come on AW this term.

Chased home three runners with experience when making an encouraging debut at Newbury over 6f all the while leaving the impression 7f would suit even better which pedigree backs up. Has to be considered a leading contender here.

Morpheus gelding not made a massive impression with fifth on debut at Yarmouth and subsequent seventh at Chelmsford. Better chance handicapping after this.

Skardu

33/1
Newcomer by Shamardal out of a 7f two-year-old winning dam from a decent family over similar trips. Trainer has an exceptional record with two-year-olds including first time out so the market should be watched here.

Newcomer by Mukhadram cost 14,000gns as a yearling and is a half-brother to three winners from 7f-1m6f. Already gelded which isn't a positive and other newcomer make more appeal.

Last in both starts to date on the July course and at Windsor. Impossible to make a case for him on those two runs.

Newcomer by Oasis Dream cost 40,000gns as a yearling and is a brother to Group Two 1m4f winner Monitor Closely and a 1m1f winner at a lower level. Decent pedigree for middle distances but trainer's two-year-old record suggest watching brief.

Velorum

15/8
425,000gns two-year-old purchase by Sea The Stars is a half-brother to a 1m winner out of a smart 5f-1m Group Three winning dam. Trainer first choice on jockey bookings and prolific yard more than capable of readying them first time out.

Newcomer by super-sire Invincible Spirit is a full-brother to a 7f-1m1f winner including at Group Three level and as a two-year-old. Nice pedigree but stable jockey prefers Velorum.

Forecasts

Velorum (15/8), Estihdaaf (9/4), Ouzo (5/1), Karnavaal (12/1), No Trouble (12/1), Tempus (12/1), Motawaj (14/1), Wings Of Time (20/1), Skardu (33/1), Dark Glory (40/1), Valence (66/1), Lynchpin (66/1), Shining Armor (100/1), The Gill Brothers (100/1), Tone The Barone (150/1)

Verdict

ESTIHDAAF was beaten a nose on debut at York by a colt with previous experience having hit the front 1f out and that form is the strongest on offer here so he gets the vote especially with the possibility of more to come. Also making a positive impression on debut was Ouzo for the Richard Hannon team whose two-year-olds progress well from their debuts and an extra 1f will be appreciated by this colt. With no fewer than eight debutants it is expected that at least one or two will be involved with most likely on paper Tempus, Velorum and Skardu.
  1. Estihdaaf
  2. Ouzo
  3. Tempus
