Eleven-time winner gained his first Group success at Sandown penultimately (5f, good to firm) before finding the Group One Nunthorpe too hot. Capable but no easy task with the penalty and most of his wins on undulating tracks.

C&D winner this season (good to soft) but not added to that since and 6½L behind El Astronaute at York in latest run which shows the magnitude of his task here.

Beat subsequent shock Nunthorpe winner in a York Listed race earlier in the season before meeting an on-song Battaash before ninth in the Nunthorpe and seventh in Beverley Listed race. More needed but best form gives him a squeak.

Winner of this last year and as good as ever now despite veteran status as showed by close up runs in Nunthorpe and Flying Five (both Group One) and Beverley win in between. Sure to go well but behind Sioux Nation and Hit The Bid latest.

Lightly raced colt gave 12lb and an 8L beating to the smart Foxtrot Lady to start the season. 12th next in Commonwealth Cup (Sioux Nation 16th) before disappointing in Group Three here. Returned from a break when hacking up at Leicester, chances.

Three-time winner this season, all over 6f. Flopped latest at Ascot seeking a hat-trick when last of 13. That not his true running but even best form leaves him a bit to find.

Soft ground loving filly won a York Listed race early last season, her biggest success to date. 4¼L behind El Astronaute in York handicap two starts back (3lb better off here) but also behind Mrs Gallagher this season so others appeal more.

Winner of her first three to earn a crack at Group One and Two level but beaten a long way in each. Drop to handicap company also saw her struggle latest so plenty to prove here.

Won her first two starts of the season in Listed races at Bath and Naas before finding the exceptional Battaash too good at Haydock (ninth). Midfield next in a winnable Ayr Listed and had a break since. Chance at best but doubts first time back.

Mr Lupton (11/4), Equilateral (3/1), Take Cover (9/2), Sioux Nation (5/1), Hit The Bid (7/1), Judicial (8/1), El Astronaute (8/1), Main Desire (9/1), Mrs Gallagher (10/1), Fashion Queen (14/1), Rebel Streak (16/1), Gracious John (20/1), Under The Covers (20/1)

Verdict

Winner of the Group One Phoenix Stakes and Group Two Norfolk Stakes at two, SIOUX NATION has been a little disappointing this season but his close fifth in the July Cup and third just last week in the Flying Five represent two excellent pieces of form and although he has to give weight away to some good rivals with his penalty he can pass this test. Hit The Bid was right on the selections heels at the Curragh and is better off at the weights so has to be considered a big danger especially given that was just his second race of the season. Evergreen Take Cover would be a hugely popular winner and has legitimate claims to repeat his win 12 months ago.
