Stepped up from a modest debut to score at Ffos Las. The third scored next time, but the poor speed figure does warrant some caution.

Comes with a dirt pedigree and fulfilled debut promise at Kempton when making all from a wide draw. The runner-up was impressive at Lingfield in midweek so she could be the one to beat from this draw.

Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: Rob Hornby| T: A Watson
3/1
Kodiac half-brother to Kempton specialist Magic Mirror. His debut effort would put him on a mark in the low 80s and if improving for the switch to Polytrack he will be hard to beat.

Bred to be useful but looked in need of the race on his Newbury debut over 7f. Kept on well through the closing stages and related to a couple of AW winners.

45,000 gns son of Casamento out of a dam who was an AW winner over this trip as a juvenile. Stable 2-43 with this age group in 2018.

€38,000 Mukhadram half-brother to 1m½f winner Foylesideview. Should have learnt plenty on debut but facing a tough task from a wide draw.

Fintas17
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: S Donohoe| T: R Hughes
7/1
70,000 gns son of Lope de Vega out of a winning dam from a good family. Weak in the market on debut when poorly drawn and having a wide trip. Did well to be only beaten a length by more experienced horses and this Derby entry has to be considered.

Horse silk
7/1
325,000 gns son of Toronado and dam's four previous foals were winners and include Group 3 scorer Agent Murphy. No big race entries, but yard 10-23 with juveniles here since 2014 and 3-7 with this age group on the AW this term.
9
(5)
Horse silk
33/1
47,000 gns son of Pour Moi and half-brother to a 7f winner. Holds a Derby entry and the market should be informative.
10
(6)
Horse silk
40/1
47,000 gns son of Cape Cross out of an unraced half-sister to Danetime. Trainer usually leaves something to work on and he will have to be smart to take this on debut.

Horse silk
100/1
Well beaten in all three starts to date when sent off at long odds. Similar fate expected again and should need further in time.
12
(9)
Horse silk
33/1
Bated Breath half-sister to five time winner (Flat and hurdles) Not Never. No fancy entries and, Sangarius apart, the yard's juveniles have needed a run.

(13)
Horse silk
50/1
Dirt pedigree being by Can The Man out of an unraced half-sister to eight winners in America. Off since making her debut in May over 5f and she should be suited to this trip, but she is in hot company here.

(7)
Horse silk
100/1
800 gns purchase has been outpaced on her two starts so far and faces a similar fate in a hot contest.

Forecasts

Barys (3/1), Brian Epstein (7/2), Querelle (4/1), Fintas (7/1), Global Heat (7/1), Catan (8/1), Characteristic (16/1), Eden Gardens (20/1), Hydroplane (33/1), Give Me Breath (33/1), Mythical Tribe (40/1), Hanakotoba (50/1), The Game Is On (100/1), Margaret J (100/1)

Verdict

The market promises to be informative with Global Heat an in interesting newcomer for a yard that do well here with their juveniles. Fintas is another to note in trading as he was 66/1 on debut and only beaten a length by experienced rivals. Catan's Ffos Las form looks suspect, but Querelle showed good gate speed to overcome a wide draw and beat a subsequent winner at Kempton. BARYS hails from a yard that have an excellent bunch of juveniles and he has achieved a useful standard of form on both starts. His pedigree points to potential improvement switching to this surface and the maiden allowance earns him the vote.
  1. Barys
  2. Querelle
  3. Fintas
