Winner at the track, having been successful here in August and took a big step forward with his form when an easy winner at Thirsk latest, relishing the step up in trip and soft ground. Conditions here no issue then, and looks a major player again.
Steadily progressive and was found a winnable opportunity to get off the mark at Musselburgh last time, although didn't need to improve to win. Faces much different conditions here and goes up another furlong, so plenty to prove.
Will appreciate this step back up to 1m after seemingly getting a bit outpaced at Chester last time, although to be fair it was no worse a performance then his previous two wins and it showed he handled soft ground. Not out of it if progressing.
Seemed to really appreciate the step up to a mile when successful at Ripon last time, coming right away for an easy win and he seems to be taking a step forward with each run. Softer ground to cope with but that aside, holds a solid chance.
Probably biting off a bit too much at Baden Baden last time in a Group 3 and is probably best judged on earlier efforts at Newcastle and Chelmsford. Yet to race on ground this deep and given a liking for the sand so far, that is a concern.
Winner at Newcastle three starts ago but hasn't progressed since then (nor in truth, gone backwards). Seemed to stay the mile at Newcastle last time but this looks a whole new test for her, and it may pay to look elsewhere for the winner.
Only the three starts so far and has run to a similar level on all three without really looking progressive. Step up to a mile should suit (some stamina on the dam's side) and yard have had a good season with their 2yos, so can't be discounted.
Goes into nurseries after three solid enough efforts to date, although a bit of a worry how quickly he faded over a mile last time after leading. Probably needs another step forward here and no guarantees this ground will help.
Hadn't shown a lot on her first two starts but did a lot better latest, beaten under two lengths in what looked a decent Newmarket novice. That at least showed she acts well on soft and the step up to a mile should suit. Not out of it.
Bounced back with a better effort at Thirsk last time out, with neither the soft ground or trip proving a worry, but has plenty of ground to make up on Billy No Mates on that and he doesn't look as progressive.
Decent enough debut at Ayr (6f) in August but two starts since then have seem him well beaten off. Goes handicapping on a low enough mark but plenty to prove here.
Forecasts
Billy No Mates (7/2), Iconic Choice (11/2), Caballero (6/1), Amber Spark (13/2), Off Piste (7/1), Ventura Bay (8/1), Wild Hope (9/1), Ventura Glory (10/1), Hoffa (20/1), Kilbarchan (20/1), Euro Implosion (33/1)
BILLY NO MATES relished the step up in trip and the easier underfoot conditions at Thirsk last time, and looked a horse that was suddenly going places. He can carry top weight to victory here. Ventura Glory is anther that looked like she was getting her act together at Newmarket last time and these conditions could bring about a bit more improvement. She and Wild Hope both hold claims as possible improvers and are not to be discounted. Iconic Choice is more solid and should run her race.
- Billy No Mates
- Ventura Glory
- Wild Hope
